TUESDAY COMMENTARY – FRANK THE TANK
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
You know what Tuesday means; another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First, the good: The CFL is down to the Final Four which means in the other five markets, the shift has been made to Next Year.
So you can imagine the stuff that’s swirling in the pro football underworld and it largely centres on the landing spot for Bo Levi Mitchell, whose time is clearly up in Calgary.
In the end, I do think he’ll sign in Sask but not before a whirlwind tour of other markets where his name’s been linked including Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa.
This is without any inside info – is just a hunch – but the Riders are going to be desperate so I see them opening the vault and as we all know, money talks.
For the Riders and Bo, that’s good. So too is off-season coverage, despite what the CFL thinks.
Next, the great: I had to search a bit for this one because there’s far more ugliness out there right now but I’ll say it’s great that Tom Brady shoved it down his doubters’ throats on Sunday with a comeback, a last second touchdown, and a home win over the Rams.
Trouble is it knocked the Falcons out of first place in the NFC South and I’ve developed an affection for the Dirty Birds, as we’re on the air in Atlanta daily on WQEE Radio.
And lastly, the ugly: Take your pick.
It could be the disturbing slides of the Flames and Oilers who both lost on Monday night to kickoff eastern road trips.
But no, it’s the hapless Indianapolis Colts of the NFL. They fired their coach Frank Reich after a 3-5-1 start on Monday after pointing the finger already at their Q-B and offensive coordinator the past few weeks. (I told you that’s how the firing line goes).
I got no trouble with people being fired – it happens all the time. But the oddest thing is replacing Reich with ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday for the rest of the year.
He’s a Colts great, but has never coached a down of football.
That’s not to say Jeff can’t do it – look at Martin St. Louis in Montreal – but they’re saying Saturday was just hired to keep Indy in last place overall till the end of the year.
And tanking is almost as ugly as it gets.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

I’m not counting on Bo hitting Regina. Wasn’t Franklin a cinch when he was the hottest commodity out there? I think it is entirely possible Fajardo is back. We tend to overvalue our players but I don’t see any place where Cody fits in as a starter. Rourke has another year in BC, Calgary & Winnipeg are set. The Elks have 2 young guys with the same tool set Cody has – great runners. And are half a dozen years younger. In the East Masoli, Harris & McBeth are not worse than Fajardo. I think the TiCats with the CUP… Read more »
