TUESDAY COMMENTARY – LET’S DANCE

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for The Good, The Great and The Ugly!

First, the good: Football is back. In fact it never really left. We’re two weeks into the XFL season and for the diehards, it’s scratching an itch. (Although couldn’t they have waited at last one weekend after Super Bowl before kicking off their season?)

The difference for me this time around from the last two kicks at the can by the XFL is that I only know one player in the league; former Rider linebacker Darnell Sankey who, in truth, I don’t even know personally.

So I’m having a tough time getting into it. And league owner The Rock hasn’t been featured prominently in the opening two weeks from what I’ve seen. He’d get me to watch.

So it’s good that the XFL is back. But so far, not great.

Next, the great: Here’s what great – by Friday all this NHL Trade Deadline speculation will officially be over!

We live in a world now where the media pundits are in a rush to “one-up” each other, and get the most Retweets and mentions. Frankly I’m no better than the rest of them but if you don’t unplug for awhile, you’ll lose your mind.

So come Friday afternoon this’ll all be over and NHL teams will be set for the home stretch. And that is GREAT.

And lastly, the ugly: The Winnipeg Jets are indeed in their worst slump of the season, losers of five of their last six.

That’s ugly enough. But what I’m hearing out of Winnipeg, from the fans, is even uglier. Now they’re questioning the roster make-up and the abilities of General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, the pride of Blaine Lake, SK.

They’re saying there’s too many Americans and Europeans on the team and not enough Western Canadian boys.

I’d been saying that the past two years but was told to shush. Oh and by the way Rick Bowness should be uncontested as Coach of the Year don’cha know! That’s what I was told anyway.

The point is, now is not the time to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I think I finally now know what that saying means!

And whomever came up with the saying, “Dance with the one that brought ya” may have come up with the best saying of all.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live, WQEE Radio and IHeartRadio)

Edmonton Oilers;
Toronto Maple Leafs;
Winnipeg Jets;

They’re just not ready and will never be. No Lord Stanley Cup anytime soon on the horizon.

*Oilers no goaltender, no defense.
*Leafs sold the farm of any future.
*Jets not going anywhere with Chevy never.
