Tuesday Commentary: Must See TV

It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: I’d have to say it’s the Connor McDavid contract announced Monday. Very good that the Oilers kept their superstar, but not great because it’s for only two years after this one. Good that it’s at a very cap-friendly $12.5-million per season, which means more dollars can be spent elsewhere in order to make the team better in other areas.
Now we’ll see what the Oilers put on the ice beginning Wednesday when they host the Flames.
Next the great: Obviously it’s Game 3 of the ALDS. The Blue Jays visit the Yankees tonight with the chance to sweep the best-of-5 series. Their 23 runs in Games 1 & 2 in Toronto were the most-ever to begin a division series but let’s not forget they’re playing the vaunted New York Yankees.
They never wither up and blow away and especially not at home.
Must-see TV indeed!
But whether it ends tonight or not isn’t the whole story. The Blue Jays are firmly in the driver’s seat, and that’s great.
And finally the ugly: The NHL came down hard on the Tampa Bay Lightning and their coach Jon Cooper on Monday. The Lightning were fined $100-thousand dollars and Cooper $25-thousand for instigating the brawls here in Sunrise Saturday night. That was the game that featured over 300 penalty minutes and a dozen or so ejections.
Money well-spent? Time will tell. But it’s clear the Lightning were sending a message to the Panthers that they haven’t forgotten last year’s playoffs and that they’re still the T-A-M-P-A B-A-Y L-I-G-H-T-N-I-N-G. (Speaking of not withering up and dying).
Hey – it’s old time hockey! And in my mind, it’s not ugly at all.

I see 👁 in my crystal ball ⚪ the British Columbia Lions hoisting in victory the CFL Grey Cup Championship, Winnipeg Manitoba 2025. Season pretender Riders better luck sometime in a far off future.
