It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: It’s real good to see Connor Bedard lighting the lamp for the Chicago Blackhawks and bulldozing his way into the Olympics conversation. More than anything, I’m super happy he’s silenced the critics.

He’s got 37 points in 21 games and is rescuing the Chicago Blackhawks from obscurity, almost singlehandedly.

I hear the pundits saying it’s a “slam dunk” that Connor gets an invite for Team Canada, but is it? He wasn’t on the Canadian team which won the Four Nations Faceoff last year.

When are we going to realize there are no slam dunks in sports, other than the NBA?

Next the great: The NFL playoffs are going to be just that. Denver and New England came out of nowhere to post double-digit win totals while there’s a rash of teams with nine or eight wins as we plunge down the homestretch.

You wanna try to pick the Super Bowl match-up? Good luck. The Bears, Rams, Eagles, Bucs, Seahawks, Packers, 49ers, Bills, Chargers and Colts all have a legit shot.

Notice I didn’t mention the Dallas Cowboys? Although in the Great State, they all believe.

What a finish we’re in for!

And finally the ugly: Lane Kiffin was introduced as the new head coach at LSU in Baton Rouge on Monday, just 24 hours after Ole Miss fans showed up at the airport to boo his departure. Just two days before that, Kiffin was coaching the Rebels to a win in the Egg Bowl. Who would’ve believed that’d be his last game with the school?

Leaving your team midseason for a better opportunity. None of us can quite get our mind around it … but imagine if you were one of those Ole Miss players with the playoffs on the horizon?

That’s as ugly as it gets in sports.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Lane Kiffen – as J.R. Foley once told Ed Whalen, “Money talks Ed Whalen, money talks”.

PS, we’re having a party Ed Whalen . . and your not invited.
