Tuesday Commentary: Sticking Around
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: I’ll admit to being surprised at the news coming out of Calgary on Monday, that the Stampeders aren’t changing much of anything; despite having the CFL’s worst record this season. Dave Dickenson will continue with the dual role of Head Coach & General Manager.
What’s more, the iconic John Hufnagel will remain with the club as a consultant.
It’s like, “What we’re doing isn’t working, but we’re going to keep doing it anyway!”
But I recalled both Dickie and Huff were nice enough to come down to the RP Show at Grey Eagle Casino when were set up in Cowtown for all that time.
Like a lot of people in the League, I think they respected my love for the CFL and desire to put on a good show everyday.
The same goes for them, so I wish them “good” luck.
Next the great: Betcha didn’t know that Monday was the 31st-ever “Sports Equinox”? All four big leagues – NHL, NFL, MLB & NBA – were playing on the same night.
I can’t believe it had only happened 30 times before in the history of sports!
But it’s a boon for sports talk guys like me, and that’s great.
And lastly the ugly: I’m feeling pretty positive these days so I’m reluctant to point out the ugly in anything. (You can always look to election coverage if you really want that).
But Monday truly was an ugly night for teams in the NHL’s Bermuda Triangle (that’s the area between Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg).
The Flames got blanked 5-0 in Vegas, the Oilers got clobbered 6-1 in Columbus, and the Jets suffered their first loss of the season, 6-4 at home to Toronto.
Winnipeg is now 8-1.
Was it just one of those nights? Or a sign of things to come?
Stick around to find out.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

This is a topic that deserves more attention.
Calgary needs to change one/two things and they are straightened out. First – he needs an Administrator/Head Scout in that office in the mold of what Pinball Clemons has in John Murphy. If Geroy Simon doesn’t get the Elks job – that’s your pick. Second – the days of going around the Sunbelt Conferance and MAC are over. The players are here on one year deals. Calgary needs to shift and focus on pro scouting so they can find the current players to fit his scheme. In other news: Saskatchewan chose. It’s back to normal. A significant an open hatred… Read more »
