TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE U-G-L-Y
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
IT’S TUESDAY AND THAT MEANS ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY!
FIRST, THE GOOD: I HAD TO DIG A LITTLE TO FIND IT BECAUSE I COULD THINK OF FAR MORE UGLY THINGS BUT STICK TAPS FOR SAN JOSE FORWARD TIMO MEIER WHO SET A FRANCHISE RECORD BY SCORING FIVE GOALS MONDAY NIGHT IN A 6-2 WIN OVER L-A IN THE SHARK TANK. MEIER, A FIRST TIME DIVISION ALL STAR, HAD A HATTRICK BEFORE THE FIRST PERIOD WAS OUT.
NEXT, THE GREAT: I GOTTA SAY I JUST CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT TONIGHT’S NHL CLASH IN THE SADDLEDOME BETWEEN THE HOMETOWN FLAMES AND THE #1-RANKED FLORIDA PANTHERS.
THE CATS HAVE BEEN MAULING TEAMS AT HOME, INCLUDING CALGARY, BUT IT’LL BE INTERESTING TO SEE hOW THEY FAIR ON THIS TRIP THROUGH THE NHL’S BERMUDA TRIANGLE WHICH BEGINS WITH A MATCH AGAINST THE BRUISING, DARRYL SUTTER-LED FLAMES.
AS AN ASIDE, THE PANTHERS HAVE HAD A BALL VISITING THE ROCKIES, DOING SNOW ANGELS IN THE FOOTHILLS, AND SLED RACING. WHAT A LIFE.
AND LASTLY, THE UGLY: THERE ARE PLENTY OF OPTIONS. IT SEEMS THE PATS WERE SELLERS ON MONDAY’S TRADE DEADLINE – DEALING OLDER PLAYERS FOR YOUNGER PLAYERS AND DRAFT PICKS – WHICH IS A SIGNAL A WHITE FLAG’S BEEN WAVED ON THE SEASON. UNLESS I’VE READ IT WRONG, THAT’S ALWAYS DISAPPOINTING.
ALSO STAR ARIZONA QUARTERBACK KYLER MURRAY PUT UP A PRETTY UGLY PERFORMANCE IN HIS FIRST-EVER PLAYOFF GAME, AS THE CARDS GOT SHELLACKED 34-11 BY THE L-A RAMS. KYLER LOOKED LIKE A ROOKIE MOST OF THE NIGHT ON MONDAY.
AND THE IMPLOSION OF THE DALLAS COWBOYS ON SUNDAY IS ABOUT AS UGLY AS IT GETS. OWNER JERRY JONES SAID HE WAS “SICK AND SHOCKED” AFTER THE GAME WITH HIS TEAM’S PERFORMANCE.
YOU’D THINK HE’D BE GETTING USED TO IT.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV across Canada and the USA. Call your cable provider for details. You can also watch on YouTube Live or listen 24/7 at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive)
I’ll always listen to all sides of a story. Having said that at a certain point reality sets in. I’ve often wondered if the Cowboys practice elder abuse when it comes to Jerry Jones. He’s 79 years old. In the most technical sense he is the GM with his children around him are sycophants. They all get paid regardless. My question has always been what exactly do they know? When Jerry took that team over he actually knew and came of age with Jimmy Johnson as a teammate and Barry Switzer was their friend and an assistant coach at Arkansas.… Read more »
