TUESDAY COMMENTARY: THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY

Regina's Cole Sillinger

It’s Tuesday and an all-hockey edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly …

First the good: Any day that includes a hockey game is a great one but the four in the NHL on Monday night were especially special.

The Leafs overcame a 4-1 deficit against the Lightning and rallied to win 6-5 in overtime while the Oilers are that greasefire you just can’t turn away from. They lost 6-2 in Vancouver. Watching the musings coming out of that game are just pure entertainment.

And here in Sunrise, it was a treat to watch Regina’s Cole Sillinger who notched an assist in the Blue Jackets’ 5-4 OT loss to the Panthers.

Florida got up 3-0, then went down 4-3, before rallying to win.

Cole will need to get on a better team if he hopes to challenge as Regina’s best all-time NHL’er.

Next the great: Usually viewer complaints are the bane of my existence but I’ve changed my tune. I’ll tell you why.

The Florida NHL podcast we launched in September – Cats ‘N Bolts – has been going great guns and has been a lot of fun. We’ve picked up a lot of sponsors along the way.

But we’ve caught some heat too, from Tampa hockey fans who say we’re far too “Panthers focused” and want to see some Lightning alum and more Tampa talk on the show.

What’s great about that? It means they’re watching.

And that’s what keeps our boat afloat.

And finally the ugly: The current NHL season has hit like a freight train to Oiler fans. Hands down Canada’s best team going into the season, exactly one month in they’ve turned out to be Canada’s worst team.

They can’t score goals, can’t defend them, and most of all they can’t decide who to blame.

But it sounds like one thing is for certain – if they don’t turn it around within a week, head coach Jay Woodcroft is going to walk the plank.

And we barely got to know him.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 5 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)

Connor McDavid is going to look mighty great in a Detroit Red Wings jersey.

Marcel Dionne started in Detroit. 18 years in the NHL, 700 goals, and 16 coaches in 18 years.

That’s where he’s headed if he sticks around in Edmonton.

Great stuff: Isn’t that the truth? With regards to Columbus I honestly believe that franchise was created for the sole and intent purpose to either balance out a schedule or cut down on travel costs. They remind me of the Moose Jaw Warriors as it pertains to the WHL. A go nowhere franchise, but you need it as a card in the deck otherwise it screws with Swift Current and then onto Medicine Hat. Frankly not all NHL franchises matter. With Edmonton. Where to even begin. Conor McDavid is languishing and wasting his career there. He is not Mark Messier… Read more »

He is looking like an average Joe out there. The guy has to be hurt. If their record was the opposite he would be sitting and recuperating.

Time for a new goalie, and a good one for once.

It’s too early to hit the panic button. Let’s remember the 2019 St. Louis Blues. Last place at the All Star Break…Stanley Cup champions by June. They need to get a goaltender, and trade away Darnell Nurse. He’s not worth the money..

Couldn’t agree more with Nurse. The guy is useless. What did they see in him for $8 mill or whatever crazy dollar they paid him?

Then again their a lot of guys I shake my head at making millions.
