It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: I’ve long referred to sports as a soap opera for men which, these days, would be very inappropriate. Women love the ups and downs of their favourite teams too! Shame on me.

But at least I’ve changed.

And the ride the Calgary Flames are on is a thrill for all. Today they have the exact same amount of points as the Oilers – 28 – and they both possess wildcard berths in the West.

The race is very good, but we got a long ways to go.

Next the great: December 2, 2024 could turn out to be a watershed day for the Edmonton Elks.

That’s the day they officially hired Lethbridge product and UofA grad Mark Kilam as their 25th head coach in club history and the enthusiasm is off the charts!

It’s so great to see. Now all Mark has to do is win and let’s not forget, that ain’t easy.

But it’s the dawn of a new era at Commonwealth Stadium and I love it.

And finally the ugly: We’re in Nashville for a conference this week and the weather sure makes it feel like a hockey town!

I haven’t ventured out enough to hear what the talk of the Predators is but when but when I do, I’m sure it won’t be good.

They’re 3rd-worst in the NHL, have won just two of their past 10 games and have three straight overtime losses.

Many can’t figure out why the Preds haven’t made a coaching change yet with Andrew Brunette, because surely this team has more than enough talent to contend.

Former Regina Pats captain Barry Trotz is in his second season as Preds GM and rest assured, he knows exactly what the problem is, even if he isn’t saying.

Maybe he knows what it feels like to be fired unjustly and doesn’t want to do the same to “Bruno”?

Only Barry knows but this town hasn’t been referred to as “Smashville” for quite some time.

But that’s fine … I quite like “Music City, USA”.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
