It’s Tuesday and that means another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First, the good: From all accounts, the WHL Trade Deadline will pass today and when the smoke clears, Connor Bedard will be staying in Regina.

Not surprisingly, this story has touched off debate all around the hockey world and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Buzz is what you want. When they’re not talking about you, that’s deadly.

And whether you think Bedard is selfish or not for nixing a trade is up to you. I personally do not.

But the fact remains the greatest WHL’er ever will wear Regina’s red, white & blue for his entire career and you’ve got the chance to watch every home game he plays.

I’d say that’s pretty good.

Next, the great: It’s very simply the Seattle Kraken. The NHL’s sophomore franchise whipped Montreal 4-0 Monday night for their fifth straight win. They sit third in the Pacific Division, ahead of the Flames and Oilers.

What a story!

The players there are having a blast and Jordan Eberle tells me a lot of it has to do with team culture.

In sports you’re either getting better or you’re getting worse. (In life too).

It’s very clear which one the Kraken have going on.

And lastly, the ugly: It was Monday night’s National Championship college football game.

It was the most lopsided in CFP history as Georgia blewout TCU 65-7.

Of course we watched it, but TCU never scored a point after the first quarter and the clock struck midnight on their Cinderella story.

Millions watched it, but millions turned it off at halftime and I was one of them.

That’s ugly.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

The Great: I have sat through the various Regina Pats regimes and full disclosure. Rain/Shine/Sleet/Recessions – the organization is getting my money and happily so. Previous to this ownership it was just God forsaken awful watching them screw up one thing after another. We’ve traded players before and nothing happened with it i.e., Kyle Calder et all. We’ve kept players before i.e., Jordan Eberle and nothing happened with it. The point is Saskatoon just finished a rebuild and are now 26-2-8. All Regina needs to do is get through the season and then send the depth players out and get… Read more »
