TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

It’s Tuesday folks! And that means another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly …

First the good: It was a very good opening night of the Stanley Cup Playoffs but as always, that depends on your perspective.

The favoured Bruins and Hurricanes both won while the underdog Wild and Kings both won in overtime on the road. That L.A. victory came in Edmonton where the Oilers blew a 3-1 lead in the third period.

There’s nothing good about that and some Oiler fans even littered the ice after the game. Meanwhile in Calgary, they snicker.

We’ll get to them.

Next, the great: The RP Show opened a brand new residency at a brand new casino on Monday; Ace Casino Airport in Calgary!

They made a really big deal out of us being there and the owners of the casino even showed up for a welcome and quasi-“Grand Opening”.

They were particularly thrilled that Flames announcer – and our good & longtime friend – Peter Loubardias was our first guest on the set. To us he’s simply “Lou” but sometimes we forget he’s a pretty big deal!

It feels really great to be treated so well. Thanks Ace and Hotel Clique Calgary Airport!

And lastly, the ugly: You never like to see somebody lose their job but that was the case Monday when the Flames announced they’re parting ways with General Manager Brad Treliving.

It was a solemn day in Cowtown because everyone likes the man known as “Tree” but the team missed the playoffs and somebody had to pay. Treliving is a former Regina Pat so that automatically makes him a great guy!

But in the end, Darryl Sutter won.

I knew he was going to, and that’s why months ago I planted my flag in this town as a Sutter-backer. Call it a hunch, or maybe I just know how Flames owner Murray Edwards thinks. Like all owners. (Murray grew up in Regina, across the street from my cousins).

And now we wait to see where Treliving lands, and who replaces him at the Saddledome.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Treliving should have fired Sutter when he had the chance……so obvious that the players didn’t play for Sutter, so look out basement, here come the Flames! One year too late…….bye Bedard!
