TUESDAY COMMENTARY: THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: For the most part, the NHL is now on its All Star break. In a bizarre twist of the schedule, there are games tonight and Wednesday but all Canadian teams, except Ottawa, are off till next week along with both the Lightning & Panthers here in Florida.
It’s good for the teams to get a break, and it’s good for the fans to get All Star festivities this week in Toronto! However I’m eager to see if the NHL takes a more serious, traditional approach to the events this year rather than the farce which occurred here last year in South Florida.
It left fans here wondering ‘What just happened?’ and, I’m guessing, Gary Bettman not too pleased with his staff.
Next, the great: It’ll be Kansas City versus San Francisco in Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas in two weeks’ time. I think it’s a great match-up although while guesting on the Sports Beat on Atlanta radio Monday, host Richard Holdridge thought this isn’t a match-up America would want.
I don’t see why not? The 49ers are an iconic franchise, the Chiefs are becoming one, and the addition of super fan Taylor Swift has brought a brand value bump of $331-million for the Chiefs, I heard on Monday.
Can’t wait to get there!
And lastly, the ugly: It’s the Yorkton Terriers situation. The team sent out a news release on the weekend saying they’re in serious financial peril and it’ll be a struggle to finish the season.
They are in last place in the Viterra Division and the playoffs look grim. Nobody asked but I don’t see this as a case of crying wolf. Because of pride, no team sends out news like this until the very last resort.
And it may take more than a tickethon to keep the lights on. The Saskatchewan way is to get creative with fundraisers and it appears the time is now.
We’re about to find out how much Yorkton loves the Terriers.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 5 pm on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
Former Montreal Alouettes Rb William Stanback would be a most excellent addition besides Frankie Hickson in the Saskatchewan Roughriders backfield running the football straight through opposing defenses. Sign William immediately, he asked for his release from the Alouettes and they obliged.
Mr. Rod Pedersen,
A plea! Please consider a come back to the Saskatchewan Roughriders as their Play by Play Broadcaster. Your voice, your sports knowledge incites are missed. You have the most consummate broadcast voice in Canada, bar none.
What the heck is wrong with people throwing up a red minus vote to my comment. Rod Pedersen has got a damn good professional sports play by play voice weather it be on radio or television. Typical stupidity on prairie “Bum”kins of Saskatchewan, they wouldn’t know high standards professional sports commentary if it slapped them upside their own face. Rod Pedersen can’t be replaced as heard and witnessed by the two guys who tried and failed miserably. You don’t know what you had until it’s gone and that was Rod Pedersen on Roughriders radio broadcasts.
