TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT AND THE UGLY.
FIRST, THE GOOD. IT WON’T SEEM THAT WAY, BUT WITH MONDAY NIGHT’S ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THE NHL IS NOW COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN TILL AFTER CHRISTMAS (SAVE FOR GAMES IN VEGAS AND PHILLY ON TUESDAY, *HAHA*), THE PLAYERS AND STAFF WILL NOW GET AN EXTENDED HOLIDAY BREAK AFTER GOING THROUGH HELL THE PAST TWO YEARS.
IT’S A SILVER LINING SORT OF THING, BUT WHO DOESN’T WANT TO TAKE THEIR FOOT OFF THE GAS OVER THE HOLIDAYS?
THE ONLY THING BOTHERING HOCKEY FANS HERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA IS IF THEY’LL GET A REFUND OR NOT FOR PANTHERS GAMES? AS YET, NO HOME GAMES HAVE BEEN MISSED.
NEXT, THE GREAT. THE SJHL ANNOUNCED MONDAY NIGHT THE RETURN OF THEIR ANNUAL ENTRY DRAFT. IT’LL GO JUNE 1, AND THE LEAGUE HAS PROMISED AN “UNCONVENTIONAL AND UNPRECEDENTED” FORMAT.
CAN’T WAIT! THE SJHL HAS BEEN OUT FRONT ON A LOT OF THINGS OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, AND THIS IS THE LATEST.
AND LASTLY, THE UGLY.
IT’S AWESOME THAT THE CFL SEEMS TO BE BACK TO BUSINESS, AND THE 2022 SCHEDULE HAS ALREADY BEEN ANNOUNCED.
WHAT’S UGLY IS THE WAY THE CFL DOES BUSINESS, AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO PLANS TO CHANGE ANYTHING.
FOR INSTANCE, PLAYERS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT SOLOMON ELIMIMIAN CAME ON THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW MONDAY AND SAID WHILE EVERYONE KNOWS ONE-YEAR CONTRACTS AREN’T GOOD FOR THE CFL, IT’S SOMETHING THE PLAYERS WANT AND THEREFORE, THERE ARE NO PLANS TO CHANGE.
SO THERE’S THAT.
THEN LATER MONDAY THE MONTREAL ALOUETTES RELEASED STAR QUARTERBACK TREVOR HARRIS. AT FIRST I WAS RANKLED, THAT A TEAM WOULD CUT A PLAYER THE WEEK OF CHRISTMAS.
THEN IT WAS RELATED TO ME THAT MAYBE HARRIS WANTED IT THIS WAY SO HE COULD GET A HEADSTART ON SIGNING WITH A NEW TEAM.
THEY SERIOUSLY COULDN’T WAIT TILL CHRISTMAS DINNER’S BEEN CLEANED UP?
OH WELL, IT’S NEVER MADE SENSE TO ME AND I GUESS IT DOESN’T HAVE TO.
MERRY CHRISTMAS.
