It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly! So much to choose from …
First the good: Trying to keep up with the moves in the NFL “legal tampering” period which opened Monday is akin to trying to take a sip from a firehose. The ones which stood out were the Dolphins releasing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (apparently the Falcons are trying to sign him), and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker fleeing Seattle for a payday in Kansas City. That’s just two of dozens.
It’s dizzying, but fun to follow.
Next the great: You gotta love meaningful baseball games in March! Monday night’s World Baseball Classic game between USA and Mexico in Houston had all the feels of the Fall Classic. Great defensive plays, towering homeruns and fans hanging on every pitch. IN MARCH!
And the cool thing was, USA felt like the road team in Texas. Maybe you had to see it to believe it.
1-1 Canada plays Puerto Rico today and I don’t expect quite as much drama, but you never know.
And finally the ugly: Frankly it’s the fallout from Sunday night’s brawlfest in Buffalo where the Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning duked it out in a battle for first place which ended in an 8-7 Sabres victory.
Dub alum Brandon Hagel was assessed a $5,000 fine for his role in the donnybrook – Jim Hopson would call that a ‘speeding ticket’ – so the NHL wasn’t overly pleased with the shenanigans.
But the Karens are howling about the dirty play of both teams and how the Lightning have stolen the title of “dirtiest team in the NHL” from the Panthers. It’s not paddycake; it’s the National Hockey League.
Newsflash: The past six Stanley Cup Finals have been staged in Florida. Being called the dirtiest team in the NHL isn’t an insult at all.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
