TUESDAY COMMENTARY: THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

IT’S TUESDAY AND THAT MEANS ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT AND THE UGLY.

AS USUAL, IT’S A TAD DIFFICULT TO DIG UP THE POSITIVES IN TODAY’S WORLD BUT HERE GOES:

FIRST, THE GOOD: I SUPPOSE CODY FAJARDO’S TEAMMATES FEEL IT’S GOOD THAT THE STAR QUARTERBACK HAS TAKEN A PAYCUT FROM HIS $500-THOUSAND-PLUS CONTRACT.

THE WHOLE SITUATION SEEMS ODD, SINCE HE SIGNED THIS DEAL WITH THE RIDERS IN THE PANDEMIC BUT AS THEY SAY “IF IT’S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE, IT’S GOOD FOR THE GANDER.”

SO I SUPPOSE THIS IS GOOD, BUT IT HAD TO BE AN AWKWARD CONVERSATION.

NEXT, THE GREAT: I WAS HOPING THE EDMONTON OILERS WOULD PULL OFF A WIN IN OTTAWA ON MONDAY, WHICH WOULD’VE PUSHED THEIR WIN STREAK TO FIVE. BUT IT DIDN’T HAPPEN.

HOWEVER THE LEAFS POSTED A COMEBACK 6-4 WIN OVER NEW JERSEY – AUSTIN MATTHEWS HAD A HATTRICK – AND TORONTO’S WON FOUR IN A ROW.

I’VE NEVER BEEN A LEAFS FAN. IN FACT I DON’T KNOW HOW ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 50 COULD BE. BUT THERE ARE LOTS AND FOR THEM, THIS IS GREAT.

INCIDENTALLY … TORONTO’S RECORD OF 28-10-3 IS IDENTICAL TO THE HALFWAY MARK ONE YEAR AGO.

AND FINALLY, THE UGLY: I’M NOT GONNA GET TOO NEGATIVE ON THIS ONE, NOR EVEN DELVE INTO COVID TODAY.

WHAT I FIND UGLY TODAY IS THE SAGA OVER TOM BRADY’S “WILL HE, OR WON’T HE” RETIREMENT SAGA.

SOME THINK TOM TERRIFIC ORCHESTRATED THIS ENTIRE CIRCUS OVER HIS RETIREMENT ON THE WEEKEND, INTENDING TO STEAL THE THUNDER FROM SUPER BOWL.

HE DID DO THAT TWO YEARS AGO WHEN HE HINTED AT LEAVING NEW ENGLAND, AND EVENTUALLY DID.

BUT I’D HOPE BRADY WOULDN’T PLAY WITH HIS FANS’ EMOTIONS INTENTIONALLY THIS TIME AROUND.

I GUESS WE’LL SEE.
