TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First, the good: The Calgary Flames survived a whale of a scare from the L.A. Kings Monday night.

The Flames built up a 6-3 lead at home and L.A. battled back to make it 6-5 in the waning seconds, but couldn’t quite get the equalizer. It’s good that the high-flying Flames are back.

Before the game I was urged to look at the standings in the NHL’s Pacific Division and when I did, I discovered Calgary was out of a playoff spot.

But then I realized it’s way, way, too soon to be looking at the standings. The thought of doing that hadn’t even occurred to me. In fact, there’s no point in doing that till the New Year at the earliest. Agree or disagree?

Next, the great: It was Monday Night Football! The game was excellent – Washington beat Philadelphia 32-21 giving the Eagles their first loss of the season – and that qualifies as an upset.

In fact the great thing is in Roger Goodell’s NFL, any team can beat any other team in any given game. That’s called parity, and that’s what every league wants.

And lastly, the ugly: It really is Monday’s CFL trade which sent Bo Levi Mitchell from Calgary to Hamilton for draft picks and future considerations.

I thought there was supposed to be a freeze on any non Grey Cup-related announcements during Grey Cup Week, but I guess not. Justin Dunk told me that ban isn’t in place till the teams arrive in the Grey Cup city.

Oh, okay.

Anyway one of The Insiders called me this morning to ask if I could believe Rider fans actually believe Saskatchewan’s still going to be able to sign Bo Levi in free agency? Don’t they understand that when a deal like this is made, nine times out of 10 it ends up with a deal getting done between the player and the new team?

I told him that nothing surprises me but I’ve discovered over the past few days that a lot of Rider Priders are refusing to acknowledge the truth about a lot of things with this team right now. And by virtue of that, they are setting themselves up for a huge letdown this winter.

And that, is really ugly.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

I have no idea why anyone would expect Bo Levi Mitchell to sign a contract in Saskatchewan. The GM and Head Coach are lame duck and for all intents and purposes they will try to get something in place for this winter and then the clock starts ticking with about 5 to 6 weeks into 2023 to get extensions. This means they start 5-1 or 6-0, but back to back losses they are gassed. The clock is running. Who would come here as an Offensive Coordinator? The only one out there is Paul LaPolice who would sign with the intent… Read more »

Tom Brady wants to play in the CFL so he can win another game in a foreign country. He’d never consider playing here behind our piss-poor pathetic offensive line though!
Maybe Cody is better off elsewhere, sad to see him go though. He can join the list of quarterbacks who’ve won a Grey Cup with another team!
