TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE LAND OF THE FREE

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

IT’S TUESDAY – THAT MEANS IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT AND THE UGLY.

FIRST, THE GOOD; AND MORE PROOF THAT DEFENSE CONTINUES TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL’S GEORGIA BULLDOGS WON THEIR FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 1980 MONDAY NIGHT, UPSETTING MY ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE 33-18 IN INDY.

THE TIDE AVERAGED 48 POINTS SCORED PER GAME THIS YEAR WHILE THE BULLDOGS ALLOWED ONLY NINE PER GAME AGAINST. SOMETHING HAD TO GIVE.

IN THE END, IT WAS GEORGIA’S DEFENSE WHICH PREVAILED AND DENIED NICK SABAN A 7TH NATIONAL TITLE IN TUSCALOOSA.

WHAT A GAME.

NEXT, THE GREAT; AND IT’S TRULY GREAT THAT IT’S NHL GAME NIGHT HERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA. THE PANTHERS ARE HOME FROM A ROAD TRIP WHERE THEY EARNED THREE OF FOUR POINTS AND TONIGHT THEY FACEOFF AGAINST THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS.

I’M EAGER TO GET AN EYEBALL OF BRUCE BOUDREAU’S CANUCKS, WHO’VE WON 8 OF THEIR PAST 10 BUT STILL STAND SECOND-LAST IN THE PACIFIC DIVISION.

I LOVE LIVE HOCKEY.

AND FINALLY, THE UGLY.

IT’S THE ONGOING COVID MESS. IF YOU’VE NOTICED, I’VE TAKEN A KNEE ON THE DEBATE AND AM GOING WITH THE FLOW. THERE IS A TON OF MISINFORMATION OUT THERE (AS I KNOW IT TO BE), AND WE’RE LONG PAST NOT KNOWING WHICH END IS UP.

BUT IT’S TROUBLESOME THAT CANADIANS CONTINUE TO FIRE DARTS AT THE STATE OF FLORIDA. THEY’RE NOT BEING IRRESPONSIBLE HERE.

JUST ABOUT EVERYONE’S HAD COVID. SHOOT, I’VE HAD IT, BUT I SERVED MY SENTENCE AND RETURNED TO LIFE AS NORMAL. FOR ME, IT WAS NOTHING MORE THAN A BAD COLD AND FLU WHICH LASTED ABOUT A WEEK.

GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS FAVOURS PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPONSIBLITY, WHICH I’VE BEEN ADVOCATING FOR FOR 2 YEARS. IF YOU TRULY ARE FEARFUL OF THE VIRUS, YOU’RE ENCOURAGED TO STAY HOME. IF YOU’RE AGAINST VACCINES, THAT’S YOUR RIGHT TOO BUT YOU WILL LIVE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES. (I’VE GOT MINE, AND IT MAY HAVE MITIGATED THE SYMPTOMS).

IN FLORIDA, THEY’VE LEARNED TO LIVE WITH THE VIRUS AND GET ON WITH LIFE.

THE HOME OF THE BRAVE, AND THE LAND OF THE FREE, INDEED.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV across Canada and the USA. Call your cable providers for details. You can also watch on YouTube Live or listen 24/7 at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive)

Any time I’ve been to the USA and it’s been numerous I have never had a bad experience. On an individual basis great people, but as a collective group just a bunch of pigs at a trough. I could see myself living in North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota as it’s very similar to Saskatchewan in that regard. Same as here, mind your own business and you’re fine. America has created so many items that impact me to this day – music, art, literature, etc., the list goes on. That’s where it stops – they are an entertainment creator that’s… Read more »

the refusal to take sides in great moral issues is itself a decision, it is a silent acquiescence to evil…all it takes for evil the prevail is for good men to do nothing…

Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Always remember. The truth never has to answer questions.

Why must I be “FEARFUL” of the virus…pretty loaded word if you ask me. “CONCERNED” communicates the same idea but without judgment…my two cents anyway.

I don’t get how you love the freedom of Florida (no mandates) and how they have dealt with all of this, but then say “you must face the consequences of not taking the vaccine”. Seems contradictory, but just my opinion. Enjoy the freedom down there, I am a little jealous 🙂

Yes I believe we should all have the freedom, but people shouldn’t be losing their jobs over it, which I have. I worked at Farm Credit and was no risk to anyone working from home. I am willing to take the risk of dying from this virus, from the data, it’s no different from any other seasonal virus. Take the vaxx or not, but if it works so good, let’s get on with our lives already.

It’s just my opinion but the USA is the greatest country on Earth and they’ve proven it over the last two years. People value freedom and personal choice, as we all should. The narrative that valuing freedom results in your neighbor getting a virus and passing away has always been a silly thing to suggest. By and large we all care about the people we surround ourselves with each and every day and it should be an individual choice on what level of risk one wishes to accept. I know this is a sports site, but the average Saskatchewan resident… Read more »

I used to think Canadian health was better than the US because it was “free”. I’m starting to re-think my position. This is just from an outsiders view, but it appears the US system is more efficient than Canada and in the end, maybe costs about the same? Just an opinion

Every Canada Day. I tell the young bloods regarding Canada….you really should have seen her in her prime. She was real honey once.

By comparison the USA is some pig you meet on an app and hook up never to be seen again.

Sure there’s lots of misinformation out there but peer reviewed data matters.

Finally the CDC came out this week and indicated that 75 percent of COVID19 deaths occurred in people who had four or more comorbidities. It’s what the ‘Conspiracy Theorists’ have been saying all along.

Canadians need to learn to live with this virus. Get as healthy as you can and do your best to stay that way. Live your life – we don’t get a second chance at this.

Lora – it is a respiratory virus. Nothing is getting stopped and I agree. Nobody ever got elected saying – historically since biblical times, and really since 1917 nature takes its course. We got to many people so nature is thinning the herd. Some will make it and some will not. Either way it is literally not my problem and I frankly do not care. People have a choice. If you are at risk then invest in handiwipes and stay home. If you are not at risk then mask up and build your body, mind, and spirit. Similar to a… Read more »
