TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE MORE THE MERRIER

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: Call it Elimination Monday. Things were finally decided in the NHL and NBA when the Vegas Golden Knights eliminated the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final, 6-0 in Game 6, to advance to the Stanley Cup Final against Florida. Meanwhile on the hardwood, the Miami Heat got serious and bounced Boston 103-84 to clinch the East and advance to the Finals. Good for Vegas and Miami, bad for Dallas and Boston.

But the National Lacrosse League final is going to a deciding Game 3 after Monday night’s game where Colorado downed Buffalo 16-10 to stay alive. That Game 3 goes down Saturday in Buffalo.

More lacrosse is good.

Next the great:
I held my breath when the email came into my inbox from the NHL late Monday afternoon. It was like receiving that letter from college whether you got accepted or not. Only this was to see if my request was approved to cover the Stanley Cup Final.

And … it … was!

No big deal. I’ve only been waiting FIFTH YEARS to do this. That’s a long time to wait.

Needless to say, that’s pretty great.

And lastly, the ugly: We’ve joked about it for years, but the bandwagon is a real thing. People are scoffing that the Panthers are finally a big deal in South Florida after years of playing in an empty barn. But it’s really no different than Mosaic Stadium being filled to watch the Raptors during their run. (Remember Jurassic Park?)

People packed the Four Seasons to watch the Blue Jays playoff games back in the day but those same people likely couldn’t tell you where the Jays stand in the AL East today.

And my personal favourite is the fact Regina’s Brandt Centre was empty till Christmas, then soldout the rest of the way after TSN made Connor Bedard a household name at the World Juniors.

It’s not a Florida thing, nor a Saskatchewan thing. It’s a people thing. And I don’t find it ugly anymore at all.

The more the merrier. Do what makes you happy.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

After yesterday I believe your message of hope, perseverance, and moving forward is more important than ever. Some people get there later or at least move the needle due to the message you are giving. Rewind to 2003. Picture where you were. I know where I was. I was meeting former Pats Head Coach Bob Lowes regarding future employment opportunities. He was actually looking at leaving hockey. 10 years in Brandon and his previous stops – he knew one way to do things and that was the right way. He spoke about Kelly McCrimmon and with Kelly he runs the… Read more »
