Tuesday Commentary: The Weakest Link

It’s Tuesday and time for this week’s The Good, The Great & The Ugly!

First the good: It’s only Tuesday but it already feels like it’s been a long week.

But I’ve got the solution! Sports has always been a wonderful escape from reality and this week you’ve got a great chance to do it on the cheap.

The Moose Jaw Miller Express is home Tuesday & Wednesday night at Ross Wells Park. Tonight we host the division-leading Regina Red Sox while on Wednesday the Medicine Hat Mavericks come to town!

The most expensive ticket is 15 bucks and you can get ‘em at the door.

Can’t beat that.

Next the great: Forgive me for forgetting, but baseball is cool.

And this is a great time to turn your attention back to the Grand Old Game since the MLB All Star Game goes tonight in Texas while the WCBL’s All Star Game goes Saturday in Okotoks.

We’ve rolled the Homerun Derby and Midsummer Classic all into one event and you can watch it on our streaming service Home Team Live Saturday evening.

Judging by the crowds in Canada and the U.S., it appears baseball is making a comeback.

And lastly the ugly: You never like to hear of someone losing their job but Monday’s news that Chris Jones is out in Edmonton as GM and head coach of the Elks comes as no surprise.

More than anything, you can chalk this up to another case of “you can’t fire all the players but you can fire one coach.”

For the winless Elks, it was one mistake after another despite the fact even a casual football fan could see the team has talent.

What’s ugly about it? The Edmonton team was once the CFL’s flagship franchise but due to mismanagement and neglect, it’s become a joke.

As fans of other CFL teams, you may snicker at Edmonton’s misfortune but remember …
