Tuesday Commentary: Unfinished Business

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98)
It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: It’s just overall football. If the CFL’s your thing, we’re coming up on the midway point of the season already (I know, hard to believe) and the Roughriders are the best team in the league at 7-1. If you’re one of those who subscribes to the theory that the season begins at Labour Day, well, you’re gonna be sorry.
Meanwhile following NFL training camps is akin to trying to take a sip from a firehose. One of the biggest stories I’ve noticed is injuries, which really makes no sense since they barely hit in practice anymore at all.
Can’t wait for the games.
Next the great: It’s amazing how this season has mirrored last for the Western Canadian Baseball League’s Moose Jaw Miller Express. After a mid-season swoon, the Millers concluded the regular season on a 5-game win streak which included a victory in Regina Monday night to clinch the TransCanada Cup (season series with the Red Sox).
So … we’re on a roll! And the playoffs begin Wednesday with Game 1s: Moose Jaw at the Saskatoon Berries and Regina at Medicine Hat. The venues change Thursday for Game 2.
The Millers got hot at the end last year too, and recorded upsets of the Red Sox and Berries on the way to the league final against Okotoks where we succumbed in the bottom of 9th in the deciding game.
Unfinished business?
And finally the ugly: It was a little alarming on the Holiday Monday sitting around on a patio at Katepwa Lake with five other guys shooting the breeze and talking sports.
The topics included a lot of hockey, some NFL, a lot of NBA if you can believe, but absolutely no CFL. I asked them if they could name the new CFL Commissioner and they could not. One was unaware there had even been a change.
Not sure what to do about this.
