It’s Tuesday and you know what that means: Time for The Good, The Great & The Ugly!

First the good: With Monday’s NHL Awards going on in Nashville, I honestly wondered what possible controversy or scandal could be drummed up on such a fun night?

But *they* found it. The voting was revealed for Connor McDavid winning MVP and get this: the Oilers star received 195 first place votes and one FIFTH PLACE vote!

The torches and pitchforks are out today, trying to find out who’d vote for McDavid at 5th.

Personally I think it’s all fun and games, and it reminds me of 2013 when Calgary’s Jon Cornish was robbed of a unanimous selection as CFL Most Outstanding Canadian by one vote.

You know who that one vote was?

Me.

Next, the great: Boston Bruins coach Jim Montgomery was named NHL Coach of the Year and in his speech he addressed being fired 3 ½ years ago as coach of the Dallas Stars due to his struggle with alchohol.

Then there he was Monday night standing on top of the mountain.

So little is known by society about Alcoholism & Addiction but here’s one thing Jim proved and isn’t afraid to say it:

We Do Recover.

And lastly, the ugly:
Trying my best to stay out of the Calgary Flames drama but it’s not easy. I know things.

We’ve discussed it lots but four regulars are reportedly leaning towards not signing longtime deals with the club, and that comes on the heels of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk refusing the same a year ago.

Where it’s getting ugly is media is imploring Murray Edwards to sell the team cuz it’s such a mess. I honestly thought some insiders were in the know but Rhett Warrener – the pride of Frontier, SK – on the Barnburner Podcast lit up the Flames saying if their dressing room was this bed, why wasn’t it blown up in December? This all seemed like news to the Rhettster.

So nobody seems to know who the cancer is and if they do … they aren’t saying.

That’s ugly.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Good morning, I was thinking of you regarding Jim. That was the only award that I tuned into last night. For him to outright bring up getting terminated 3.5 years ago by Dallas and stating his accountability and how his behavior and actions had to change was goosebumps. That guy is the real deal. For those of us who have been there, on the journey, shaking in the corner either angry or scared in a meeting. – keep coming back. Wait for the miracle to happen, and relapse can be part of recovery, but same as a fitness journey get… Read more »

I remember Jon Cornish football player extraordinaire. He used to run ruff-shod all over the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club every season he played. He was a phenom, probably still is.

I also remember Cornish baring his ass at the east side fans one day. Not that I blame him; the thought has crossed my mind once or twice, but it was beyond bush league.
