TUESDAY COMMENTARY: WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for our favourite game show: The Good, The Great & The Ugly.
First the good: The Canadian Football League’s exclusive Negotiation Window is now open and that means teams can make offers to pending free agents this week. Free agency opens on Valentines Day.
I think it’s real good that the Roughriders have thrown a line in the water, reportedly offering a whopping contract to quarterback Trevor Harris.
Frankly, Trevor’s everything the Riders could use right now. He’s a veteran leader, definitely proven in this league, and is a Hall of Fame human being. (That also sounds like Cody Fajardo, but I digress).
This Rider regime won free agency in 2019 on the way to finishing first in the West. They lost free agency last year, finishing 6-12.
This franchise has a lot to prove, but a good start would be signing Harris.
Next, the great: It’s simply great to be back in the Queen City this month, hosting The RP Show from Ballers Rec Room. This Sunday we’ll be hosting a Super Bowl Watch Party at the Four Seasons Sports Palace. You’re invited!
All my best memories come from this province and it’s already been a very positive time.
But what’s also really great is hosting the show in Alberta and Florida, growing the show in new markets, covering new teams and leagues and making new friends.
In short, EVERYTHING IS GREAT! This is what I was trying to build.
And lastly, the ugly: It’s the reaction across the land to the NHL’s All Star Weekend.
It ain’t what it used to be – that’s true – but no amount of bellyaching is going to make the NHL go back to what it was before.
Thankfully it’s over, and the NHL got back to work Monday night with some unbelievable games.
And really, the games are what it’s all about.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

There is a massive difference between Cody Fajardo and Trevor Harris. Both are identical in their skillset and both have never once reached their full potential.Trevor Harris and Zach Collaros were Ricky Ray’s backups. Unfortunatelly Trevor has never found his “Winnipeg” where they actually know what to do with him. It’d be easier for Trevor here simply because he’s 36 and at this point nobody expects anything from him. He should take the massive payday they are going to offer – with a warning that says his future will resemble Mike Reilly in BC; picking the concrete out of his… Read more »
