Tuesday Commentary: Who You Gonna Call?

It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: You know me — always looking for the silver lining. So with the erosion of mainstream media, particularly in Western Canada, one can’t help but notice the void in coverage of our beloved Canadian Football League these days.
The columnists are gone, as are the late night local highlight shows (looking at you, STV’s Sportsline), and sportstalk radio ain’t what it used to be either. But the good news is it’s created a window for a guy like me to step up and give commentary when called upon!
On Monday I was a panelist on Edmonton’s Sportstalk 1440 in the afternoon and on Calgary’s QR77 in the evening.
Not sure why they wanted me but hey – who else you gonna call?
Next the great: To say the Blue Jays are on fire is an understatement. Tonight they go for their 10th straight win, and they’ve won 27 of their past 37 games. In fact they’ve tied a club record for wins before the All Star Game with a week to spare.
Sure the usual suspects are front and centre: Guerrero, Bichette, Springer and Kirk. But some guys named Joey Loperfido and Nathan Lukes homered last night against the White Sox. All I can say is, it’s great!
Blue Jays TV host Jamie Campbell joins the RP Show today to discuss it all.
And finally the ugly: Something about Canada Day passing. That’s when people seem to sit up and take notice of the Western Canadian Baseball League. Just like Labour Day in the CFL.
So my phone’s blowing up with sports fans who’ve noticed our Moose Jaw Miller Express have lost four in a row, including blowing two late leads against the Saskatoon Berries. The latest was 4-3 at the Berry Patch last night.
I’ve cautioned not to panic and that the team is comfortably in a playoff spot. Believe in each other and everybody make sure they’re playing their best individually.
But nobody wants to hear from an old man.
