TUESDAY DUB/SJ PLAYOFF ROUND-UP
PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Mikey Milne had a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Winnipeg Ice to a 10-1 rout of the Prince Albert Raiders on Tuesday in Western Hockey League playoff action.
Winnipeg leads the best-of-seven first-round series 3-0.
Zachary Benson had two power-play goals and added two assists for the Ice, while Connor McClennon scored and had three assists. Owen Pederson, Jakin Smallwood, Conor Geekie and Skyler Bruce rounded out the attack.
Daniel Hauser made 18 saves for the win in net.
Harrison Lodewyk was the lone scorer for Prince Albert.
Tikhon Chaika started in net for the Raiders, stopping 17-of-22 shots in 30:50 of work. Max Hildebrand turned aside 9-of-14 shots in relief.
The Ice were 3 for 5 on the power play and Prince Albert could not score on its three man advantages.
Elsewhere in the WHL, the Red Deer Rebels downed the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-1 to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven series. The Edmonton Oil Kings took a 3-0 lead in their series with the Lethbridge Hurricanes after a 4-1 win on Tuesday. The Moose Jaw Warriors edged the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 in overtime to take a 3-0 lead in their series. The Portland Winterhawks blanked the Prince George Cougars 2-0 for a 3-0 series lead. The Seattle Thunderbirds topped the Kelowna Rockets 5-1 to improve to a 2-0 series lead.
FLIN FLON, MB – Brett Wieschorster scored on a powerplay with 58 seconds left in regulation giving the Flin Flon Bombers a 4-3 win over the Estevan Bruins in Game 3 of the SJHL Final on Tuesday, cutting the Bruins’ lead in the Best of Seven down to 2-1.
The Bombers led 3-1 late in the second period before the Bruins tied things up. Wieschorster, Jaeden Mercier, Drew Kuzma and Zak Smith all had a goal and an assist for the Bombers, and Cal Schell made 31/34 saves.
Olivier Pouliot, Mark Rumsey and Kade Runke did the scoring for the Bruins. Boston Bilous made 24/28 saves in the loss, his, and the Bruins’ first loss since Game 1 of Round 1 against Notre Dame back on March 18th. The two teams go right back at in Wednesday in Flin Flon, and Tuesday’s result means two busses will be heading back to Estevan for Game 5 on Saturday.
