Radim Vrbata had a goal and assist, and Eddie Lack made 23 saves as the Vancouver Canucks opened a four-game trip with a 4-1 victory over the struggling St. Louis Blues. St. Louis missed a chance to clinch a playoff spot. The Blues have lost two straight at home, and have just one win in their last six games.

The Calgary Flames added some breathing room between themselves and the LA Kings in the standings. Calgary edged Dallas 5-3 and the Kings fell 4-1 to Chicago to give the Flames a three-point cushion over LA in the tight playoff race in the Western Conference. Elsewhere, goalie Ben Bishop had two assists as the Lightning topped Montreal 5-3. It was Tampa’s fifth win against the Habs this season.

DeMar DeRozan was unstoppable Monday night. The Raptors shooting guard poured in a career-high 42 points and added 11 rebounds as Toronto edged the Houston Rockets 99-96. Jonas Valanciunas had 15 points and nine boards and Lou Williams chipped in with 13 points for the Raptors.

Chris Colabello went 3 for 4 with a home run to lead the Toronto Blue Jays in a 7-4 spring training win over Houston. Danny Valencia, and Justin Smoak also homered and Daniel Norris gave up four runs on five hits through six innings. The 21-year-old left-hander also struck out eight batters.

A University of California, Berkeley soccer player who disappeared after a weekend party was killed by a car as he ran across a Los Angeles freeway. Police say the 19-year-old freshman, Eloi Vasquez, died early Saturday on Interstate 10 about a mile from the University of Southern California after he was seen leaving a fraternity party.
