- RP and Moose Dupont opened the show with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday NHL one-timers, 2) The NHL releases a statement on its Russian players, 3) The Raptors bomb Brooklyn 133-97 and host the Nets Tuesday night, 4) A big Tuesday night in the NHL featuring Oilers/Flyers, Canadiens/Jets, Flames/Wild & Sharks/Golden Knights, 5) It’s deadline day for the MLB CBA talks, and 6) Football notes including Kyler Murray’s future with the Cardinals and reviled football coach Art Briles steps down as O.C. at Grambling State.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will you miss baseball if the MLB doesn’t start on time? At press time, 60% of respondents said no.
- In Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer we were joined by Winnipeg ICE forward Zach Benson. The 16-year old from Chilliwack, BC said he’s a huge fan of the show and appreciates Rod’s support of the ICE and his career. As a 15-year old in the Brandt Centre bubble last spring, Benson notched 20 points in 24 games. This year at age 16, Benson has 47 points in 37 games but credited YALE Hockey Academy for teaching him how to be a two-way forward. Zach said ICE head coach James Patrick is dialing the team in for the playoffs and feels the ICE can go a long way. Regarding Winnipeg’s recent 7-game, 10-day road trip into Alberta, Zach said he could’ve stayed on the road for two more weeks!
- Next up we were joined by Pallas Athena Womens Fight Club announcer Don Andrews from Vancouver. He discussed last month’s wildly entertaining World Womens Fighting Championship at Grey Eagle which included Cris Cyborg. Don discussed the landscape of womens MMA and said PAWFC is a global entity. Don also moonlights as PA announcer for the NLL’s Vancouver Warriors, NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, CFL’s BC Lions and MLS’s Vancouver Whitecaps. He gave his thoughts on all those clubs and is optimistic about the Canucks making the playoffs.
