TUESDAY RUNDOWN: NHL PREVIEW!
It’s becoming a yearly thing! The annual RP Show NHL Preview aired as Episode #859 on Tuesday with special Florida Panthers guests live at The Beach House in Pompano Beach, FL! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NFL officiating is under fire after two controversial Roughing The Passer calls in Week 5, 2) A CFL Week 18 recap – HAM 18-SASK 14, TOR 23-BC 20, WPG 48-EDM 11 and OTT 24-MTL 18, 3) The Blue Jays implode in the Wild Card Series against Seattle, 4) All four MLB Division Series open on Tuesday, 5) The NHL continental season opens Tuesday night with the Lightning at the Rangers and the Golden Knights visiting the Kings, and 6) A recap of weekend WHL, OHL and QMJHL games.
- Florida Panthers broadcaster and alum Randy Moller dropped by the Beach House for an hour-long visit about ALL thing Panthers and NHL. In Hour 1, Moller spent most of the time discussing the many changes to the Panthers from last season’s President’s Cup-winning team and admitted Joel Quenneville stepping down mid-season was an earthquake for the franchise. He explained that moving Johnathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weeger to the Flames was a money move, not a hockey move but expects great things from Matthew Tkachuk.
- Florida Panthers forward Nick Cousins (444 NHL GP, Belleville, ON) joined the show to discuss his off-season signing with the club, how the team gelled during the preseason, and looked ahead to Thursday’s season-opener at the NY Islanders. The former Flyer, Coyote, Canadien, Golden Knight and Predator described South Florida as a “sneaky good hockey town” and is very eager to get the season underway!
- The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which Canadian NHL team are you buying stock in right now? – Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton or Other? At press time, the Flames were leading.
- Randy Moller returned in Hour 2 to preview the rest of the NHL and discuss his colourful broadcasting career where his goal calls became legendary across the NHL. The Red Deer, AB product answered tons of viewer questions.
- RP Show hockey analyst Sarina Taylor – the first female to call play-by-play of a WHL game – joined the show wearing an Oilers shirt and previewed the season. She predicted a Colorado-NY Rangers Stanley Cup Final. (Rod’s sticking with Calgary-Florida). The panel also debated the latest news in the Hockey Canada scandal, and Sarina took a swipe at Spittin’ Chiclets host Paul Bissonnette.
- Friday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was AutoZone Liberty Bowl Executive Director Steve Ehrhart. Tuesday’s was Sarina Taylor!
