Tuesday was Episode 138 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • It was a wall-to-wall hockey edition as former Pats coach & player Al Dumba joined Rod and Dupes in the bunker for The Rollout for Flooring Superstores. They went deep on the Taylor Hall trade and examined the futures of both the Oilers and Coyotes, who are tied for the NHL’s Pacific Division lead with 42 points. They talked a bit about the upcoming World Juniors, and the RP Show schedule over the Holidays (live shows and Best Of editions). The panel also brushed on the 2020 Roughriders schedule, and Rod said CFL schedules are the most over-analyzed things in sports.
  • TSN Montreal’s Joey Alfieri joined the show via video chat to offer an update on the Montreal Canadiens, plus the latest on the Alouettes. Joey talked about the future in goal for the Habs, the progress of former Pats defenceman Cale Fleury and the outlook for the Canadiens. Regarding the Alouettes, Joey said not much is known about the sale of the club but said the hiring of a GM has become incredibly awkward with the new 3-year contract for head coach Khari Jones. He also talked about his breaking news last week that “tampering” is now legal in the CFL in free agency.
  • Edmonton broadcaster Dean Millard was next up on video chat, giving his take on the Oilers and Monday’s 2-1 win at Dallas. He feels the club is only missing a top-6 forward for a playoff run, but the goaltending tandem of Mike Smith/Mikko Koskinen has not given adequate goaltending. Rod mentioned that Oiler fans are far too sensitive about the club, and should trust the management tandem of Tippett/Holland. Al Dumba agreed, saying the addition of Dave Tippett automatically made the Oilers a serious contender.
  • NHL great Theo Fleury joined the show from Calgary for a deep chat. Asked for an assessment of the Taylor Hall trade, Theo said he’s not watching much NHL hockey. Rod laughed, and Theo agreed, that the pair are onto the next chapter of their lives (Mental Health & Addictions support) but sports fans only want to talk about their first chapters! Things got serious when discussing the topic of coaching abuse in hockey and Fleury said he feels bad for fired Flames coach Bill Peters. “He made a mistake,” Theo shrugged, and said we live in a “pile-on” society, rather than one of compassion.
  • The Voice of the Notre Dame Hounds Jamie Neugebauer made his RP Show debut and, along with Producer Clark, discussed WHL/SJHL hockey and the plight of their Maple Leafs after the coaching change. Neugsie also talked about the Hounds neutral site games in Moosimin, Midale and Southey, and how great they are to extend the SJHL brand.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Does the addition of Taylor Hall make the Coyotes a Stanley Cup contender? The vote swayed between “Not Sure” and “No”.
