NFL

Drew Lock threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 28 seconds left to cap a 92-yard drive, and the Seattle Seahawks stunned the Philadelphia Eagles 20-17, ending a four-game NFL skid and getting back into NFC playoff contention. Seattle rallied behind its backup QB, who moved the team the length of the field for its longest T-D drive this season. The Eagles lost their third straight game.

Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke is joining the New England Patriots as a waiver pickup, according to an NFL Network report. New England plucked Rourke off the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice roster and the first-year NFL QB is expected to be part of the Patriots’ active roster for the remainder of the season. Rourke, who was born in Victoria and raised in Oakville, Ontario, was the CFL’s Outstanding Canadian last season with the BC Lions.

NHL

Justin Barron scored a power-play goal 69 seconds into overtime to lift the visiting Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets in NHL action on Monday. Josh Anderson and Christian Dvorak also scored for the Canadiens, who have recorded points in four of their past five games. Cole Perfetti and Gabriel Vilardi scored for the Jets, who had their two-game win streak halted.

Mikael Backlund scored a short-handed goal at 3:31 of the third period to snap a 1-1 deadlock and the Calgary Flames hung on to beat the visiting Florida Panthers 3-1 in NHL action on Monday. Martin Pospisil and Blake Coleman also scored for the Flames, who won their second straight game. Sam Reinhart scored for the Panthers on the power play.

Thomas Harley scored at 2:16 of overtime as the Dallas Stars beat the visiting Seattle Kraken 4-3 in NHL action on Monday The Kraken got a goal from Eeli Tolvanen at 19:38 of the third period to force overtime. Matt Duchene scored twice for the Stars and added an assist.

WHL

The Western Hockey League announced Tij Iginla of the Kelowna Rockets has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week.

The 2024 NHL Draft-eligible centre contributed to all three game-winning goals as the Rockets went 3-1-0-0 on the week to close out a seven-game road trip. Iginla is currently tearing it up on a six-game point streak that’s seen him net six goals and 12 assists.

Vancouver Giants netminder Brett Mirwald has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week.

The 20-year-old went 2-0-0-0 in two starts, both against the Seattle Thunderbirds, putting up a near-perfect .98 goals against average and .965 save percentage.

NBA

Gary Trent Junior came off the bench for a season-high 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Toronto Raptors rallied past the Charlotte Hornets 114-99 in NBA action on Monday. Toronto’s Pascal Siakam led all scorers with 27 points. Scottie Barnes had 22 points and a career-best 17 rebounds for the Raptors. Terry Rozier scored 22 for the Hornets, who lost their fifth straight game.

Trae Young extended his recent hot streak with another double-double, scoring 31 points with 15 assists, as the Atlanta Hawks beat Detroit 130-124 in NBA action Monday, handing the Pistons their 24th consecutive loss. Detroit is two losses away from matching the NBA’s longest losing streak in one season. Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with a career-high 43 points.
