CEBL

  • Elijah Miller’s CEBL single-game record 10 three-pointers helped the Edmonton Stingers (9-3) hold off the Saskatchewan Rattlers (5-7) in an 88-81 victory on Monday afternoon at the Expo Centre in Edmonton.
  • A battle between two conference leaders ended with Vancouver and Niagara feeling kilometres apart. The Bandits ran away with 105-83 win over the East-leading Niagara River Lions on Monday at Langley Events Centre, a bounceback performance following their disheartening 19-point loss to their conference-rival Stingers on Saturday.

NBA

Klay Thompson is moving on from the Golden State Warriors, with the four-time league champion agreeing to join the Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks and change franchises for the first time in his 13-year NBA career, according to two people with knowledge of the decision. The deal will be executed as the sign-and-trade of a three-year, 50-million-dollar contract involving the Warriors, Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets, according to people who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

NHL

The Nashville Predators were by far the biggest spenders on the opening day of N-H-L free agency, with more than one-billion-dollars U-S in contracts doled out. Nashville signed former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos, winger Jonathan Marchessault, and defenceman Brady Skjei, while locking up goaltender Juuse Saros for another eight years. In major signings for Canadian teams, Vancouver inked forward Jake DeBrusk and Toronto added defencemen Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

MLB

The Toronto Blue Jays, 3-1 Canada Day losers to the visiting Houston Astros, have dropped seven of their last 10 games and are stuck in the AL East basement with a 38-and-46 record, 15 games behind the co-leading New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles. The Jays face the Astros again on Tuesday. Right-hander Jose Berrios will start on the mound for the Jays..
