TWO MORE PATS DEADLINE DEALS

Regina Pats Senior VP and General Manager Chad Lang announced today the Pats have traded forward Geordie Maguire (’95) to Swift Current in exchange for a 6th Round WHL Bantam pick in 2015 and forward Marc McCoy (’94) to the Kelowna Rockets for a 5th Round WHL Bantam pick in 2016.

Geordie Maguire was acquired by the Pats at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft from Brandon for draft day considerations.  In the Blue and White, Maguire scored seven goals and added seven assists in 27 games played.

Marc McCoy played in all 36 games in the first half of the season, registering seven points (2G, 5A) over that span.  McCoy has played 158 games in his WHL career, totaling 36 points along with 171 penalty minutes.

The trade deadline came and went and, with respect to the Pats, no significant players were moved out and no significant assets were acquired. It appears that, once again, the Pats are holding onto their older players to try make a deep run in the playoffs. This is an average team without first round picks from 2011 and 2012 so in all likelihood they will be first round casualties. People are not going to the games because this team has been crappy for well over a decade and the Pats refuse to give the fans hope that this is going… Read more »

Hey Bob Nixon ….

Have you learnt anything here ? Even if you know something you should keep your mouth shut until it happens. Or you look like a fool.

You might of been right, they might of had a blockbuster deal on the table. But obviously something happened (someone got hurt, someone got gun shy etc…)

Anyway. Until the deal is sealed and sent to the league its best to keep quiet. I know its tough but when you don't you look silly.

What some people keep forgetting is that Lang would be crazy to move our good players if the return is not close to being worth it. You don't make a trade just for the sake of making a trade. If he had done that then the why did he give them away for nothing comments would be all over this blog. I'm sure Lang looked at making those trades but no one was willing to step up with the right offers. If that was the case then he did the right thing and the Med Hat trade was a good… Read more »

So Gopred… do you think other GM's are going to give up their "significant assets" and/or young prospects to get a significant asset from the Pats. You also can't sell off the best for "shot in the dark" Bantam picks, with no guarantee that those future picks that will even make the WHL! Let's let C Lang do his job, or do you actually think he is just deliberately staying pat to ruin the franchise? You "arm chair" GM's make me shake my head.

I laugh when Pats fans justify not trading assets by saying the werent going to just giove them away yet every other team who trades away great older players make out fantastic with high draft picks and young prospects.

Why never in Regina can that happen?
