Chad Johnson’s return to pro football is still on hold.

Johnson, who has not played in the NFL since 2012, agreed to a one-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes earlier this month but he is still waiting to receive a permit to work in Canada.

According to Jason Lacanfora of CBS Sports, Johnson will have to wait seven to 10 days to see if his criminal record will prevent him from being approved for a permit to work in Canada.

“We still have to sit down and figure everything out and apply for acceptance into Canada and all those kind of things,” Alouettes general manager Jim Popp told the London Free Press when he reached a deal with Johnson last week. “We’ll see if all that actually takes place, to see if he’s going to be in the CFL at some point.”

The former Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots receiver entered a no contest plea when he was arrested in 2012 for a domestic battery charge.

Based on Johnson’s tweets this week, he doesn’t foresee much of a problem.
