MOOSE JAW – Before a sellout crowd at Mosaic Place Saturday night, the Regina Pats narrowly held on for a 4-3 victory over the Warriors, and a sweep of their weekend home-and-home series.
One night after beating the Tribe 5-0 in Regina, the Pats built up a 3-0 lead on the road on goals by Brayden Buziak, Adam Brooks and Filip Ahl before the 2:00 mark of the second period.
However the Warriors charged back in the middle frame with goals by Brayden Burke and Thomas Foster to make it 3-2 Pats after 40 minutes.
It was a tight game in the third, but Regina got the back-breaker when Adam Brooks scored his second of the game – and 39th of the season – on a breakaway at the 11:45 mark.
Moose Jaw captain Brett Howden got his team within a goal at 4-3 with 5:10 remaining and then the Warriors thought they tied it with just three seconds remaining on a crease crash.
However the goal was waved off, and Regina escaped with the victory to improve their record to 48-12-8. With the loss, the Warriors fell to 41-19-8.
Moose Jaw outshot Regina 35-22. The Pats were 1/2 on the powerplay and 4/4 killing penalties.
Tyler Brown got the win in the Pats net while Zach Sawchenko took the loss for the Warriors.
