WARRIORS 5 PATS 4
MOOSE JAW – Tristin Langan’s even strength goal at 13:11 of the second period was the winner as the Moose Jaw Warriors downed the Regina Pats 5-4 Friday night in the opener of a weekend home-and-home series.
This game had it all! The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 6:48 into the game on goals by Nikita Popugaev and Noah Gregor only to see the Pats storm back with four of their own – a pair from Luc Smith and singles from Sam Steel and Dawson Leedahl – for a 4-2 Regina lead after 20 minutes.
Regina got into penalty trouble in the second period and the Warriors were the benefactors of a pair of 5-on-3’s. The Warriors erupted for three unanswered goals – from Gregor, Brayden Burke and Langan – for a 5-4 lead after 40 minutes. Burke’s goal came on a two-man advantage.
The teams kept it clean in the third and despite pulling goaltender Tyler Brown with 1:23 remaining, the Pats couldn’t get the equalizer. Brown ended up with 24 saves in the loss while Moose Jaw’s Zach Sawchenko made 33 stops for the victory.
Regina outshot the Warriors 37-29 while going 0/3 on the powerplay and 3/5 killing penalties.
The attendance was 4,085.
The Pats (21-3-6) host the Warriors (20-7-5) Saturday night at 7:00 on 620 CKRM.

What was it 3 or was it 4 bad goals against the Pats goalie?? When you score 4 goals on the road and don't get a point, the problem is bigger than you think. Weak short side goals and ones between the wickets have been a problem all season. Does Wagner not think he will get a penalty for a two hand slash in front of the referee?? MJ wins here tomorrow..

It was a different game than the last time the Pats were in Moose Jaw. The Warriors had Brett Howden, Jayden Halbgewachs and newly acquired Brayden Burke (from the Hurricanes) in the line up this time and it made a huge difference. The Warriors played hard and out worked the Pats at times. The Pats had weak goal tending (especially early in the game), took stupid penalties, and didn't seem to want it as bad as Moose Jaw did. Summary – Warriors played very well and were on the Pats constantly other than the 10 minutes in 1st period when Pats scored 4 unanswered. – Brown – I am sure he would like to have a couple back, but actually made a number of great saves. – Pats vets didn't come to play – Pats PP sucked big time (credit to MJ!). They can't put Brown in a 2nd or 3rd round series he'll have a melt down like tonight again vs a good team and cost a series he's just not good enough come playoff time,pats can't expect to score 5 or 6 come playoffs
Besides the obvious sub standard goaltending, defence, and discipline there are some other concerns. The Pats have become too small and were built for run and gun. When they get int greasy defensive games, they don't do well i.e. Saskatoon last week, and the BC road trip. The Warriors have some big and talented forwards who can and did dominate the Pats. After reading the comments with the exception of Mr.Wepplers you would believe this has to be the worst 21-3-6 team ever.
Some people's heads are always buried in sand. When you have had a problem and don't fix, it doesn't make the problem go away. When they're 23-8 and in second place the same people will try making excuses for that too. Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Even a win tonight doesn't fix what needs to be.
Make no mistake the Pats are a good team. So are the Warriors. The fans win if all the games are like the first 2 this year. We will have a couple of good years with this trans Canada clash. I am a Warriors fan.

I think if the pats were 30-0 there are still people out there who would find something to be negative about. I feel sad for them.

No one wants to give MJ any credit and they are three back of Regina going into tonight.
Take nothing away from the Pats, but the coronation many have already started is a long way from happening.

Pats fans relax. Moose Jaw also has a GREAT team. Both teams have outstanding forwards. MJ is better in goal, Pats a stronger defence because MJ's best dmen are all young kids. (Remember – next season is supposed to be MJ's year, not this year) Will be a great playoff series if they end up facing each other. The only disappointing thing about watching this game on Access was having to watch Rod be such a homer. Last Anon re:"No one wants to give MJ any credit" – if you read the posts previous to yours several bloggers gave the Warriors credit for being a good Team. They outplayed and outmuscled the Pats last night, but that's Junior hocket at its best. You never know which Team is going to show up any given night. The Pats have been consistent from the beginning of the Season and the Warriors are coming on of late. The key to any of this is making the playoffs and peaking during the March/April timeframe. MJ didn't even have their head coach Friday. Keep ignoring the fact Pats ownership that you don't have a goalie issue. Might get to 3rd round at best with what you got.
I'm a huge Pats fan, but Moose Jaw should be commended for having 4,000 last night in that cold. Bigger cities like Seattle, Vancouver and Portland usually get 3-4,000 a home game. And Saskatoon with Saskatchewan's largest population, rarely breaks 3,000 fans per home game.
There were over 4,000 at the game? From the picture, the stands look mostly empty.
Saskatoon hasn't had a decent team in years and the crowds they get are what they deserve. Go to their games and 3000 fans sitting on their hands makes for a quiet night But the Rush make up for it with almost 13,000 showing up in minus 35 degrees wind chill to watch an exhibition game and how many years has it taken for the Pats to get a decent team and draw big crowds, as soon as they start losing that will end just like it does in any WHL city .
