WARRIORS 6 PATS 5 (OT)
In the span of four quick days, the Regina Pats find themselves on a three-game losing streak. Saturday night at a soldout Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Jesse Shynkaruk scored at 1:31 of overtime to give the hometown Warriors a 6-5 victory. The stretch of bad luck means the Pats’ magic number to clinch a playoff berth for a second straight season remains at one.
The Pats had a 2-1 lead after the first period Saturday night but trailed 4-2 after 40 minutes. They then grabbed a 5-4 lead in the third period before the Warriors’ Brett Howden tied it up with 3:04 left in regulation to sent it to overtime.
Shynkaruk scored on the only shot of overtime to send most of the 4485 fans home happy.
Regina’s goals came from Adam Brooks (3), Jesse Gabrielle and Patrick D’Amico while rookie goaltender Tyler Brown took the loss making 28 saves. Moose Jaw’s Zach Sawchenko got the win making 34 stops.
Regina outshot their opposition 39-34 while going 1/3 on the powerplay and 3/5 killing penalties. The Pats still need one win, or two points, or a Moose Jaw loss to clinch a playoff spot.
The Pats (33-20-5-4) complete a stretch of three games in three nights Sunday evening when they welcome the Warriors (26-31-4-1) at 6:00 pm in the Brandt Centre on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 5:35 pm).
if you look at it on a positive side the pats have 2 points in last three games
The moms of atom hockey players from Lanigan Saskatchewan should be embarrassed. At what point, as a parent, is it acceptable for you to go into the basement of an arena after a game is over and attack a 14 year old ref.
I've seen it all folks. This is what is wrong with our hockey system in Canada. I'd rather my kids play some other sport.
Go right ahead pal….you should see soccer moms go ballistic! Lol!
Took in the game in MJ tonight. Good crowd…good atmosphere…good game. Pats did play a bit sloppy and took some undisciplined penalties so maybe fortunate to get the point. Good come back in the 3rd…again! Brayden Point was the best player on the ice…smooth. Should be a good one tomorrow night. Get'er done boys!
We knocked off Lanigan in the Provincial firt round for Bantam. – that parent group was fine.
As the years go by you realize it's certain individuals and not the collective.
Atom is where they still have delusions the kids are going to the NHL. By Bantam they'll figure out that unless they go away for school they'll be working in the mine around Lanigan.
For the past 15 games or so the Pats have been both lazy and undisciplined in their play. I'm pretty sure those are not Paddock's traits but his team is showing them. Maybe it's time for him to lower the boom a little. The leadership group are a big contributor to the lack of discipline. They need to be much better. Backing into the playoffs ins't the way to go. That happened last year and we all know how that ended.
LOL at Anon lazy and undisciplined …
The Pats are 7-3-4 in their last 14 games. One of the hottest teams in the entire WHL over that span. That's hardly "backing in" to the playoffs.
If that comes from being lazy and undisciplined, then please, let the lazy and undisciplined play continue.
comments are ridiculous on here, simply trolls trying to ruin the blog
How's the prepared move to Arizona for you going Rod?
I guess more sloppy and undiciplined play leads to yet another win. Now 8-3-4 in last 15 games … really BACKED IN to the playoffs.
Sheeeesh. Give yer head a shake …
i dont count ot/so loss, losses are losses
the real record is 8-7 over last 15
Pats DESTROY MJ 6-2 tonight and SC lost to Saskatoon !
''''''' GO PATS GO '''''''
Well you keep whatever ledger you want in your own little world.
But in the real world, playoffs are determined on points and the Pats have earned points in 12 of their last 15 games (20 out of 30 for .666) – one of the hottest teams in the entire league.
I'd hate to see how negative you were if we were actually losing. Sheesh
in the real world you dont get points for ot losses in the playoffs
ummm … ok, but this isnt the playoffs.
making the playoffs is determined by points NOT wins. thats reality
really… you get 2 pts for winning a game and 1 for going to ot or so and losing.also wins are the 1st tiebreaker in the event two teams are tied in pts.
Yes, we know how points are accumulated. And the teams making the playoffs do so by accumulating the most points. Therefore, a shootout loss in the regular season (which used to be a tie) gets 1 point where a regulation loss gets 0. So how the two are equal in your world, speaks only to your limited view of relaity. The reality to the rest of the world, is that the Pats have accumulated points towards the playoffs in 12 of their 15 games (8-3-4), which makes them one of the hottest teams in the league over that stretch. the bottom line is a loss is a loss. if you go 3-2-2 in the playoffs what does that get you?
you cant even go with your logic as once playoffs start it is 5on5 no shootout play til there is a winner…. 5on5 the Pats are one of the best teams in the league so yes I would like our chances better in OT to win then our chances in a SO or in OT 4on4 It doesn't matter how you see the Pats in terms of their current record cause in the regular season a loss is not a loss if the loss happens in extra time. Time for you to get with the times in todays game and… Read more »
