WEDNESDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY – DURON SPELLS IT OUT
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
YOU WOULD THINK WE’RE NEARING A DECISION. BUT THEN AGAIN, MAYBE NOT.
WE RECEIVED A COUPLE OF TIPS AT THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW ON TUESDAY THAT WE SHOULD EXPECT A DECISION ON THE 2020 CFL SEASON ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, AND THAT INSIDERS ARE CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC IT’LL BE A “GO”.
OBVIOUSLY JUST LIKE THE COACHES AND PLAYERS, WE’RE PRAYING THAT WE’LL SEE RIDER GAMES THIS FALL, BUT IT’S STILL THIRD-AND-VERY LONG.
ACTUALLY, I SHOULD SAY SOME PLAYERS WANT TO PLAY.
WHILE STAR TIGER-CATS BRANDON BANKS AND DELVIN BREAUX HAVE BOTH SAID THEY WON’T PLAY THIS YEAR, I DON’T BELIEVE THEM. A LOTTA PEOPLE SAY THINGS THEY DON’T MEAN IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT.
BUT DURON CARTER GAVE US A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE THIS MORNING. DURON TWEETED THAT NO FOOTBALL LEAGUE IS SAFE FROM CORONAVIRUS RIGHT NOW AND, TO PARAPHRASE, IT’S SELFISH OF US FANS TO EXPECT THE PLAYERS TO PLAY WHEN THE PUBLIC IS AFRAID TO STAND NEXT TO EACH OTHER IN LINE.
NOW … DURON CAN’T SPEAK FOR ALL OF US, AND I’M NOT PARTICULARLY AFRAID OF THE VIRUS. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO’VE HAD IT AND EVERY ONE OF THEM HAS SURVIVED.
BUT DURON CAN SPEAK FOR THE PLAYERS AND IF THEY REALLY DON’T WANT TO PLAY DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS, THAT’S THEIR RIGHT.
BUT HE DOESN’T SPEAK FOR ALL PLAYERS. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY. IF YOU DON’T, THAT’S YOUR RIGHT TOO.
WE USED TO PROUDLY PROCLAIM OUR FREEDOM TO CHOOSE WHAT’S BEST FOR US. RIGHT NOW, THAT’S NOT THE CASE.
AT LEAST NOT IN FOOTBALL. NOT AT ALL.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
