WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
APRIL 6 WILL ALWAYS BE A DAY WE REMEMBER, AND OBSERVE.
TODAY MARKS THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE WORST DAY IN SASKATCHEWAN HISTORY, APRIL 6, 2018, WHEN 16 MEMBERS OF THE HUMBOLDT BRONCOS LOST THEIR LIVES AND 13 OTHER PEOPLE ON THAT BUS TO NIPAWIN HAD THEIR LIVES CHANGED FOREVER.
WHAT PEOPLE FORGET – OR DIDN’T KNOW – IS THAT THERE ARE LITERALLY COUNTLESS OTHERS CONNECTED TO THAT TEAM WHO WEREN’T EVEN ON THAT BUS BUT SAW THEIR LIVES DESTRUCTED TOO.
WE’RE THINKING ABOUT THEM ALL TODAY, AND HOPEFULLY OFFERING SUPPORT IF NEEDED.
THIS IS SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT EVER GET OVER, REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU WERE IMPACTED BY THE TRAGEDY. THE BEST YOU CAN HOPE FOR IS TO LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT AND FOUR YEARS LATER, THOSE AFFECTED ARE AT VARIOUS STAGES IN THEIR RECOVERY.
AGAIN, TODAY WE’RE THINKING ABOUT THEM.
IN FACT HERE IN SUNRISE, FLORIDA TUESDAY NIGHT THERE WAS A GUY IN ATTENDANCE AT THE MAPLE LEAFS/PANTHERS NHL GAME WEARING A HUMBOLDT BRONCOS SHIRT.
THAT GREEN AND YELLOW LOGO REALLY STANDS OUT IN A CROWD.
IT MADE ME WONDER IF THAT GUY WEARS THAT SHIRT ALL THE TIME, OR IF IT WAS HIS WAY OF HONOURING THE HUMBOLDT BRONCOS ON THE ANNIVERSARY.
AND THAT’S THE KEY. WE WILL ALL REMEMBER IN OUR OWN WAY AND THAT’S JUST FINE.
JUST SO LONG AS WE NEVER FORGET.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY.
