WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – CAN YOU BELIEVE IT

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

TODAY I FIND MYSELF STILL TRYING TO GET MY HEAD AROUND THIS LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN THE CFL (IF THE STORIES ARE TRUE).

THE VERY SECOND THE NOTIFICATION CAME ACROSS MY PHONE ON TUESDAY THAT THE CALGARY STAMPEDERS HAD SIGNED QUARTERBACK JAKE MAIER TO A 2-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION, MY VERY FIRST THOUGHT WAS “WHERE DOES THIS LEAVE BO LEVI MITCHELL?”

CLEARLY THE STAMPEDERS HAVE CHARTED THE COURSE OF THEIR FUTURE AND IT’S WITH MAIER, NOT WITH THE FRANCHISE’S ALL-TIME LEADER PASSER; BO LEVI.

AND THAT’S ALL FINE. TIME MARCHES ON AND EVERYTHING HAS A SHELF LIFE. WE TALK ABOUT THAT HERE ALL THE TIME.

AFTER TUESDAY’S STAMPS PRACTICE, BO ADDRESSED THE MEDIA AND SAID WHILE HE HASN’T ASKED FOR A TRADE, HE UNDERSTANDS THAT TEAMS HAVE CALLED ABOUT HIS AVAILABILITY AND BASICALLY, “WHATEVER HAPPENS, HAPPENS”.

I WATCHED THE VIDEO. MITCHELL LOOKS LIKE A GUY WHOSE SPIRIT’S BEEN BROKEN.

I’VE BEEN THERE.

HOW THE STAMPS GOT TO THIS POINT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER ALTHOUGH I CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT THE OPTIMISM AROUND BO THIS SPRING AND HIS PEOPLE TELLING ME HE’S “PAIN FREE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS”.

MAYBE PHYSICALLY, BUT CLEARLY NOT MENTALLY.

AND ANY COMPETITOR I KNOW WHO’S BEEN TOSSED ASIDE LIKE YESTERDAY’S GARBAGE DOESN’T WANT THEIR STORY TO END THAT WAY.

SO MY PHONE’S BEEN BLOWING UP WITH FOOTBALL PEOPLE SUGGESTING THE NEXT DESTINATION FOR BO LEVI MITCHELL AND WHILE TORONTO AND HAMILTON GET MENTIONED, THE MAJORITY FEEL HE’LL SURFACE IN SASKATCHEWAN. PERHAPS BEFORE THE END OF THIS SEASON BUT IF NOT, DEFINITELY BEFORE NEXT.

I’M SORRY, WHAT?

“THE INSIDERS”, AS I LIKE TO CALL THEM, SAY CODY FAJARDO’S TIME IN SASK IS ALREADY UP AND YOU CAN DEBATE AMONGST YOURSELVES WHY THAT IS.

I HAVE MY OWN THOUGHTS, WHICH I’LL HANG ONTO FOR NOW.

BY THE WAY THE INSIDERS THINK FAJARDO HAS ALL THE TOOLS TO BE A STAR AND FRANCHISE GUY. JUST NO LONGER IN SASK.

THIS IS A FAST-MOVING CURRENT AND I DO RECALL SEVERAL MONTHS AGO SAYING ONCE THAT SNOWBALL STARTS TUMBLING DOWNHILL, THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP IT.

BUT EXCUSE ME WHILE I STEP OFF TO THE SIDELINES FOR A SECOND TO TRULY PROCESS WHAT’S GOING ON BEFORE OUR EYES.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

His shoulder is toast. Bringing him to the riders would be a disaster playing behind the worst o-line in the league.

I have only one question regarding the Cody Fajardo saga.
Why does Jason Maas have a Get-Out-of-Jail card?
