WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – CLAMBAKE

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

A COUPLE OF THOUGHTS TODAY, BEGINNING WITH THE ONE CLOSEST TO HOME.

THE REACTION TO THE NEWS RIDER DEFENSIVE MVP LOUCHEIZ PURIFOY WAS DETAINED BY POLICE SUNDAY NIGHT AFTER AN ALTERCATION AT A REGINA RESTAURANT HAS BEEN WIDE-RANGING; MOST OF IT SAD.

THE SCORN FROM OTHER TEAMS’ FANS IS PREDICTABLE, BUT THE VITRIOL HEAPED ON 3DOWNNATION BY RIDER FANS FOR SIMPLY REPORTING THE STORY IS STOMACH-TURNING.

SHAME ON YOU.

WE’LL SEE WHERE IT GOES BUT THE STORY WHICH CAME OUT TUESDAY IS DIFFERENT THAN THE ONE I WAS TOLD MONDAY NIGHT.

TIME WILL TELL, BUT IT’S CLEARLY FAR FROM OVER.

ON TO HAPPIER THINGS.

THE GAME OF THE YEAR IN THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE WAS HERE IN SUNRISE, FLORIDA LAST NIGHT.

IT WAS BILLED (BY ME) AS THE GAME WHICH WOULD DECIDE NHL SUPREMACY AND IT DIDN’T DISAPPOINT.

ALEX OVECHKIN’S WASHINGTON CAPITALS JUMPED OUT TO A 4-1 LEAD IN THE SECOND PERIOD ONLY TO WATCH THE FLORIDA PANTHERS ROAR BACK AND WIN IT 5-4, ON A SAM REINHART GOAL WITH 15 SECONDS LEFT IN REGULATION!

THE PLACE WENT WILD.

THE PANTHERS FIRED A MIND-BOGGLING 51 SHOTS AT CAPS GOALIE ILYA SAMSONOV, AND THEY’VE BEEN DOING ALL THIS WITHOUT THEIR CAPTAIN AND BEST PLAYER, SASHA BARKOV.

THE HOMESTAND FOR THE PANTHERS CONTINUES THURSDAY WITH THE BUFFALO SABRES IN TOWN FOLLOWED BY THE ST. LOUIS BLUES IN A SATURDAY MATINEE.

ALL I’VE EVER WANTED TO DO IS COVER THE NHL IN A SUNNY CLIMATE.

SO AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, I’M AS HAPPY AS A CLAM.

I don’t know there’s a lot of sheisters down in florida. I suppose they get all these old geezers down there and the one thing they miss is hockey, their own team, a saturday night game. I mean they gotta have something to do down their:) i haven’t been there since I went to Florida on a southern tour where i met this little red head….anyway another topic for another day. This is why you dont move teams. For almost 30 yrs Bettman has been sticking with that market and it has paid off. They will also never let Arizona… Read more »

Last point about Mr. Purifoy and this is for context. First he doesn’t have to apologize for anything. Second let’s look at some context: 1) The Refinery had a bunch of thugs breach every bylaw you could imagine to the point the Premier was pulling his hair out. – none of those guys ended up in jail except a few as a token and they all had their charges dismissed. 2) A bunch of deadbeats don’t pay their rent so the poor souls end up at Camp Marjorie loitering and again none of them end up in cells. 3) A… Read more »

From what I read last night his friend possibly started something and he was trying to calm everyone down.
I enjoyed that comment Randall.
