WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – FIND THE SILVER LINING
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
It’s time for the weekly edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First, the good: Without question the NHL season is off to a really good start. However I heard NHL Radio’s Gord Stellick say fans and media are reading WAY too much into teams’ early season fortunes.
I mean, shoot, no team has even played 10 games.
However the division leaders are Vegas, Dallas, Boston and Carolina. Detroit, Ottawa and Buffalo are all in playoff spots!
Which of these trends will continue? Surely not all of them.
Except for Vancouver. I think we can all agree the Canucks season is over and it’s hard not to blame coach Bruce Boudreau who’s been on the bench for almost one full year.
Next, the great: That is undoubtedly the town of Lampman, Sask. My good buddy Stu Grimson and I were the guest speakers at Saturday’s sports banquet in Lampman where we raised money for a new ice plant.
Let me tell you it was the most well-run, organized and successful event we’ve ever done! Over $120,000 was raised which is the most for any event I’ve ever been a part of.
We’re back and sports banquets are popping up all over the land. I’d say that’s GREAT!
And lastly, the ugly: It’s that blasted storm, or whatever it was, that hit South Central Saskatchewan over the weekend. We’ve been around a long time but it’s no exaggeration to say it was one of the worst ever, with a record amount of cars in the ditch in an area between and around Swift Current and Moose Jaw. I was one of them.
It caused me to be stormstayed in the Regina area for a few days but rather than griping, I took it as a positive and a chance to see friends and family; some of whom I hadn’t seen for over a year.
Then, the highways opened up and it was back to Alberta where they’ve welcomed my TV & radio show with open arms over the past year.
If you can find a silver lining in a tough situation, you’ll find life to be a lot more enjoyable.
