Wednesday Commentary: Fun To Think About
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
Wednesdays are for random thoughts on this commentary so here we go:
#1 – What’s top of mind for me?
Honestly it’s Tuesday’s news that NFL owners voted overwhelmingly (29-3) in favour of changing their kickoffs to the XFL-style beginning this season!
The change is to increase the amount of returns (only 20% of kickoffs were returned last season), and also to reduce the amount of high-speed collisions.
That’s all great news but the thing that resonates with me is how this illustrates that leagues as big as the NFL can change on a dime if they really want to.
#2 – Voting opens on Friday for this year’s Kraft Hockeyville contest and I’m thoroughly enjoying the creativity behind the campaign for Wolseley, SK.
Their colourful signs are popping up on the jumbotron and TV screens at games across the country so there’s absolutely no reason for anyone not to know about this.
The Wolseley Sportsplex iceplant is nearly a half century old and on its last legs, so they need to win this contest and the money from Kraft that goes along with it.
And since they wouldn’t be in position to host an NHL preseason game next Fall should they win, that game would be played in Regina’s Brandt Centre!
Are you sold yet? Go to KraftHockeyville.ca today to register for voting!
And #3 – The standings are shifting by the day. On Tuesday the Leafs were lined up against Boston in Round 1 while Florida lined up with Tampa. But after last night’s results, now it’s the Leafs and Panthers in Round 1, and Bruins and Lightning.
Impossible to predict, but fun to think about!
And the Oilers beat the Jets 4-3 in overtime sending Winnipeg to their fourth straight loss.
If you’re a Manitoban, that’s not fun to think about at all.

Kickoff rules This is not a bad thing what the NFL does for returns. In fact on that field it will make what was a dead play now a legitimate threat of a return. I watched xfl in 2020 and when it came back. Usfl was the same and they had hybrid cfl/nfl rules. The next thing they will adopt will be the one foot in play just like the CFL. The CFL has inspired for decades and it’s just evolution. The merged UFL kicks off this weekend and football is football. I said before. Do not bet against Vince… Read more »
In case you haven’t heard, Vince McMahon has been blacklisted from basically everything. So yes, bet against Vince. He’s a predator.
