Wednesday Commentary: Killin’ Time
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s random thoughts day on this Commentary and that might be my favourite day! Here we go:
#1 – It’s Labour Day Classic week and Sunday’s Winnipeg-at-Saskatchewan game is the 59th edition. My favourite was my first in the Riders broadcast booth, in 1999.
I ran into Riders receiver/returner Curtis Mayfield at Humpty’s on Albert that morning, and he later returned two punts for touchdowns in a Rider victory, and set a team record.
Who knew Pan Scramblers were rocket fuel?
#2 – An RP Show viewer asked what’s been the highlight of spending the summer in Moose Jaw, SK? Absolutely no doubt it was the Clint Black concert on June 26 at Moose Jaw Event Centre. It was his “35 Years of Killin’ Time Tour”.
Halfway through the show I noticed I had tears in my eyes.
They were tears of joy.
#3 – While out for my morning run on Tuesday, a guy stopped me on the side of the road. He rolled down his truck window and said, “Why can’t the Riders win?”
It’s Groundhogs Day. Time to go.
#4 – Other CFL fans have been filling my inbox with questions about the League. How much did the Edmonton Elks sell for? What happened to Shawn Lemon? His gambling hearing was set for early August?
I don’t know. Ask the insiders, or the myriad of Hall of Fame reporters who cover the league on the reg.
You want evidence of how this business isn’t what it used to be? There ya go.
And #5 – My mind is on hockey at the moment, and also the two speaking events I have booked for this weekend in the 306.
Is it too soon for a Stanley Cup Final prediction? The oddsmakers say an Edmonton-Florida rematch is the most likely pairing.
Let’s go with that!
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 4 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
This is why the Saskatchewan Hall of Fame blows without ever getting a call back. That’s how bad it is. Hall of Fame Reporter inductions……Darryl Davis? My God he’s going in thinking he’s actually Frank DeFord or Grantland Rice. The people that make that decision think so. Then you have “The Historian.” Guess who’s not in the Hall of Fame: Rod Pedersen John Lynch Pete Loubardias Geoff Courier Mitchell Blair When you get a group of people sit around and circk J$#% each other off and social gadfly this is what your getting. Witht that stated – what’s going on… Read more »
