WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY: MERCURY IS IN RETROGRADE
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER EDITION OF CANADA’S FUNNEST GAME SHOW – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY!
FIRST, THE GOOD: I’LL SUBMIT THAT IT’S THE FACT CFL PLAYERS ARE STILL ON THE FIELD IN TRAINING CAMPS THIS WEEK DESPITE VOTING DOWN THE OWNERS’ LATEST BARGAINING AGREEMENT PROPOSAL.
THE PLAYERS ARE GOOD GUYS, BUT AS I GET OLDER, I REALIZE THEY’RE STILL YOUNG MEN AND I’M WONDERING IF THEY EVEN KNOW THIS LATEST OFFER FROM THE OWNERS IS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD.
THE GOOD NEWS IS TEAM LEADERS LIKE WADE MILLER AND JOHN HUFNAGEL FEEL THIS WEEKEND’S EXHIBITION GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AND FOR THAT, WE CAN THANK THE PLAYERS WHOM ARE DOING SO IN GOOD FAITH.
NEXT, THE GREAT: WELL IT HAS TO BE THE CENTENNIAL CUP PRESENTED BY TIM HORTONS HERE IN ESTEVAN WHERE DESPITE THE FACT THE HOST BRUINS WERE OFFICIALLY KNOCKED OUT OF PLAYOFF CONTENTION TUESDAY NIGHT, THE INTENSITY IS ACTUALLY RATCHETING UP.
WITH TEAMS LIKE FLIN FLON, PICKERING, ONTARIO AND SUMMERSIDE, PEI ALL IN CONTENTION GOING INTO THE WEEKEND – AND OF COURSE TOURNAMENT FAVOURITES BROOKS, ALBERTA – THEIR FANS ARE JUST GETTING TO TOWN ALONG WITH ALL THE PRO HOCKEY SCOUTING PERSONNEL.
BRAVO TO THE ENERGY CITY FOR PERHAPS THE BEST CENTENNIAL CUP EVER!
AND LASTLY, THE UGLY: SORRY CALGARY, BUT IT HAS TO BE THE DISMAL PERFORMANCE OF THE FLAMES IN ROUND 2 AGAINST THE EDMONTON OILERS.
THE PACIFIC DIVISION PENNANT WINNERS HAD A CHANCE TO SQUARE THE SERIES AT 2-2 TUESDAY NIGHT BUT BAD PENALTIES, BAD GOALS AGAINST AND OVERALL UNDISCIPLINED PLAY HAS THEM UNBELIEVABLY FACING ELIMINATION AT HOME THURSDAY NIGHT IN GAME 5.
WE SAID LAST WEEK THAT MERCURY IS IN RETROGRADE AND SOME CRAZY STUFF IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
NOW HERE WE ARE.
