It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! Lucky you …

#1 – Here’s hoping you’ve gotten ensconced in the Olympics like the rest of the world! Ratings are up 80-90% in Canada and the US and the Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy have been fascinating.

Got up early today to watch Regina’s Mark McMorris in the snowboard finals – his Dad was our Driver’s Ed instructor – and it really was fun to watch. Mark makes it look so easy!

#2 – Meanwhile it’s Quarterfinal Day in mens hockey. Not sure if this is going to be anything like the World Juniors but in that tournament, there’s always an upset at the Quarterfinal stage. Today’s schedule is: Germany vs Slovakia, Czechia against Canada, Switzerland against Finland and Sweden taking on USA.

Honestly I hope there ISN’T an upset, and we get what the world wants: Canada vs USA in the gold medal game on Sunday.

#3 – I get a bang out of the coverage from the networks who don’t have the Olympic rights. ESPN is talking NFL and MLB daily and to be honest, I’m here for it. You don’t have to dig too far to find some juicy NFL offseason storylines and spring training baseball games begin on Friday.

But I’ll get into those when the Olympics are over.

And #4 – On the RP Show we keep chugging along, doing our thing. We’re in Season 8 which is nearly as long as I hosted the SportsCage radio show! On Tuesday we welcomed Vegas Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon who took some time out on the NHL’s Olympic “break”.

I got to ask Kelly every single question I’ve been waiting years to ask him, plus the viewers got to ask theirs too.

It never gets old.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
