Wednesday Commentary: Oops

It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! Lucky us …
#1 – Not gonna lie — the story that’s caught my eye the most this week is the media being blamed, again, in Toronto for the Leafs falling short. They lost in Montreal last night for their eighth defeat in a row and the pundits are saying there’s too much pressure in Hogtown. That wornout commentary would be sad if it wasn’t so predictable!
Can someone please give me a believable reason why this is? I’ve long said I’ll blame the media for losses once we start getting credit for wins.
#2 – The Florida Panthers sat out vets Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart in last night’s home game versus Detroit, and were immediately accused of tanking by those same pundits. But the Cats came back to win it 4-3 on a pair of Carter Verhaeghe goals in the final 1:30. The Comeback Cats are still alive, and will never tank.
#3 – lslanders star rookie defenceman Matthew Schaeffer hit the scoresheet again last night in New York’s win over the Blues and is now 13 assists away from tying Phil Housley’s record for a teenaged defenceman in a season.
#4 – What a week it’s turning out to be! Canada beat Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic on Tuesday and now needs just one more win today to clinch first in their pool and their first-ever quarterfinal appearance in the WBC!
And #5 – Jaws dropped in the press box last night when word came down that the Maxx Crosby-to-Baltimore NFL trade has been nixed due to the star D-end failing a physical.
To say people are chasing their tails is an understatement, and lets not forget his long goodbye on his podcast and the Las Vegas Raiders trashing him on his way out of town.
Oops.

The Media in Toronto is a lot of things. If you go by the Kash Patel-ish former CBC guy testifying about his time there. Responsible is not one of them. These players are not required to speak to the media. They can be cordial but not responding is an option or just let a monosyllabic Auston Mathews answer questions. From the R.P Show to Barstool there are plenty of options to get their narratives out. Mainstream Canada media aside from CBC. They had $600M in government subsidy. That should let the players know who has an agenda. If anyone takes… Read more »
