It’s Random Thoughts day on this commentary. Let’s have a look …

#1 – They’re calling Thursday’s US Thanksgiving NFL clash in Dallas between the Cowboys and Chiefs as the biggest NFL regular season game in history! Not sure I believe that, but I was told Tuesday that the sportsbooks will see the most money ever bet on an NFL game in this one.

Somebody asked me if the 5-5-1 Cowboys can beat the 6-5 Chiefs. Hey – the Cowboys have the talent to win every game they play. Yet, they’ve only won five of their 11 games this year. And these teams aren’t even in playoff spots!

#2 – By the way, I used to love that stat that 80% of NHL teams in a playoff spot at US Thanksgiving go on to make the playoffs. But I put no stock in it anymore. Plus, the standings are so tight in the most even season in NHL history.

Three years ago the Florida Panthers spent 78% of the season out of a playoff spot, but wound up making the playoffs and going all the way to the Stanley Cup!

This season, the Tampa Bay Lightning were in the last playoff spot less than a week ago. Today, they’re in first place in the Atlantic Division.

Crazy.

And #3 – Sports banquets are back. Covid kicked the crap out of the public speaking tour and it’s been a long road back but I’ll be in my hometown of Milestone, SK this Saturday along with Corey Mace and Lorne Molleken as we raise funds for the arena. Would love to see you there!

The Saturday after that we’ll be in Lanigan for the Tinsel For Tots event along with the Riders’ Marc Mueller and Luc Mullinder. These dinners are the best part of my job!

And it’ll be nice to be back …

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Byran Hayes, Jamie McLennan blowing big time smoke up their a**’s offering up Vancouver Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes to anyone who wants to put in a trade deal. Quinn Hughes ain’t going nowhere. Those two guys on TSN are interfering clueless fools. Vancouver Canucks have their marquee player to build around.

Bo Levi Mitchell plus Brady Olivera two very fine CFL free agent acquisitions by the Saskatchewan Roughriders amongst a few others 2026. Riders ready for a total reset.
