WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – SENS ROLL & CFL BUZZ

IMG_0004

A FEW THOUGHTS ON THIS MIDWEEK DAY …

FEAST OR FAMINE IN THE NHL. ONE DAY AFTER NO GAMES ON THE SCHEDULE, THERE WERE 13 IN THE SHOW ON TUESDAY INCLUDING THE ONE I WAS AT; THE SENATORS & PANTHERS HERE IN SUNRISE, FL.

BUT IT WASN’T MUCH OF A GAME. THE SENATORS ROUTED THE NHL’S #1 TEAM 8-2 AND QUITE OBVIOUSLY IT WAS THE WORST BEATING FLORIDA’S ABSORBED ALL YEAR.

THE LONE TAKEAWAY FOR ME WAS THAT YOU CAN’T NOT NOTICE SENS CAPTAIN BRADY TKACHUK. HE MAY NOT BE THE FLASHIEST PLAYER, BUT HE’S A HEART & SOUL GUY AND WELL WORTH THE $8-MILLION (AAV).

THE L.A. KINGS ARE IN HERE ON THURSDAY.

MEANWHILE, I JUST KEEP GETTING SUCKED INTO THE CFL!

BUT THAT’S OKAY BECAUSE I ENJOY IT SO MUCH. MY PHONE IS BLOWING UP WITH THE COMINGS AND GOINGS OF COACHES AND GM’S AND IT SEEMS CHRIS JONES HAS ALREADY INTERVIEWED WITH THE EDMONTON ELKS.  BUT THE ARGOS REALLY DON’T WANT HIM TO LEAVE.

BLUE BOMBERS HEAD U.S. SCOUT DANNY MCMANUS IS REPORTEDLY SCHEDULED TO INTERVIEW WITH OTTAWA FOR WHAT WILL BE A CO-GM ROLE WITH THE INTERIM JEREMY SNYDER. PERSONNEL GUYS TED GOVEIA AND RYAN RIGMAIDEN ARE IN THE MIX TOO, WITH UP TO EIGHT CANDIDATES, I’M TOLD.

LIPS ARE SEALED IN HAMILTON WITH THE FUTURE OF HEAD COACH ORLONDO STEINAUER. THE HEAD COACH HAS DANCED AROUND THE QUESTION OF HIM LEAVING FOR THE WASHINGTON HUSKIES MULTIPLE TIMES AND IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY WOULD JUST PULL THE TRIGGER AND GET ON WITH “LIFE AFTER O” IN STEELTOWN.

THAT EDMONTON JOB IS A CURIOUS ONE. SO THEY’VE TALKED TO JONES AND APPARENTLY HAVE AN EYE ON WINNIPEG COACH MIKE O’SHEA FOR A DUAL COACH & GM ROLE. WHETHER IT’S TRUE OR NOT, I DON’T KNOW, BUT IT SEEMS IT WOULD BE VERY TOUGH TO GET O’SHEA OUT OF WINNIPEG AND I’M TOLD HE’S ASSUMED A GOOD CHUNK OF THE PERSONNEL DUTIES WITH THE BOMBERS AS IT IS.

WHY LEAVE A GOOD THING? BUT EVERYBODY LOOKS AT THINGS DIFFERENTLY, AND MONEY TALKS.

HERE WE GO WITH THE CFL OFF-SEASON, AND IT CAN BE A HECKUVA LOT OF FUN IF YOU LET IT.
