Wednesday Commentary: Stealing Money

It’s Random Thoughts Day here on the RP Commentary! Here they are …
#1 – It’s the Stanley Cup Final that hardly anyone saw coming. In fact of the 750,000 brackets cast in the NHL.com Bracket Challenge, only 3% had Edmonton and Florida meeting for the Stanley Cup.
I know I sure didn’t. In fact, if anything, I recall saying, “Could you imagine and Oilers-Panthers Final?” but never seriously thought it could happen.
Yet here we are.
#2 – Columnist Greg Cote of the Miami Herald called Oilers star Connor McDavid “overrated” in a column this week, because he hasn’t won a Cup in nine seasons.
Look – I’ve seen Greg Cote at one Panthers game in three years. But we’re in the Hot Take business, so I get where he’s coming from.
And I’m sure the Panthers are real happy Greg gave the Oilers extra motivation. /sarcasm off
#3 – I’m getting significant pressure to return to Florida for the Stanley Cup Final but I just can’t see that happening. I’ve committed to broadcasting Moose Jaw Millers baseball games this summer and, besides, I’ve got a reporter in South Florida covering the series for the Cats N Bolts Podcast and RP Show.

And #4 – Now that I’m fully into the swing of calling these games, I’ve realized our legendary baseball broadcasting heroes like Vin Scully, Tom Cheek, Jack Buck and the like were all stealing money for decades.
This ain’t work! It’s just so darned much fun and although we’re at the ballpark daily for about six hours at least, it goes by in a blink.
There’s a bunch of us old farts in the broadcast booths across the WCBL this summer, which makes me wonder where the next generation is? I keep hearing from kids who “want in the biz”.
But they’re not answering their phones I guess, and that’s fine by me.
I’ll never say no to extra money.

This comment is partially on baseball so I guess it fits.
My beloved CFL starts up this week so on Tuesday I phoned my provider and added the TSN feed to my package.
Then I watched those pathetic Blue Jays last night and phoned in this morning to cancel Sportsnet.
I’m not paying money to watch that crap and listen to the commontators sugar coating everything.
