WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY: SUPER BOWL BOUND
((Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hit Radio 98 CKHD FM & LTD Radio)
New year, same format. Wednesdays remain dedicated to random thoughts on this commentary. Here we go:
#1 – Canada is OUT at the World Juniors in Sweden after falling 3-2 to Czechia on Tuesday. No medal, and no reason to watch, really, the rest of the week. The pressure is in immense on the Red & White every year, as it should be. This time they didn’t answer the bell.
#2 – We’re not even at the halfway point of the NHL season yet but that won’t stop the pundits from making sweeping generalities about the teams. Including me.
That’s what we do, and that’s why you’re here.
The Winnipeg Jets remain Canada’s best team and hope for a Cup, and their 4-2 home win over Tampa Tuesday night was impressive.
I especially loved the goalie battle in that one: Hellebuyck versus Vasiilevsky.
Tampa’s out of a playoff spot as of today but if they get in, they could be dangerous.
#3 – Regarding Tuesday’s commentary, one of our listeners hinted that the inexplicable officiating in the NFL has to do with the explosion and popularity of sports betting.
I scratched my head and quoted Willie Jefferson by saying, “How that?” before someone pointed out the inference is that the outcomes are fixed.
However I’m here to say no way, no how. I swear on my Mother’s grave that there isn’t a hope in hell that these pro sports games are fixed because if there was, the whole enterprise would go up in smoke.
Look what happened to prizefighting!
No … don’t underestimate the presence of good ol’ fashioned incompetence, and something called “human error”.
And lastly #4 – The long-awaited email came in from the NFL on Tuesday: our media pass request for Super Bowl LVIII has been approved.
See you soon, Vegas.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

If anyone is taking suggestions from the peanut gallery; in the event you are able to ask a question.
Ask the two Head Coaches if they will allow their players to sleep with their wives/girlfriends before the game…….
Now, as I’ve said before. When people die it’s not a bad thing as some people clearly need to go. I’ve got a 2024 deadpool of local/regina types that I truly hope expire.
How Jim Hunt was never blasted right in the face…held up….hammered in the face again is beyond me.
I took solace when Terry Jones was finally fired.
