It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! And what a great day in sports it is …

#1 – They say Game 3 in a Best-of-7 series is always the most pivotal and it sure feels that way for the Blue Jays. They’re at Seattle tonight trailing the American League Championship Series 2-0 and send Shane Bieber to the mound against the Mariners’ George Kirby.

It’s hard to believe that such a stirring Jays season would end with such a fizzle! If they win tonight, we have a series. If they lose, I’m certain it’s over.

#2 – Surprising news out of Mosaic Stadium on Tuesday that the Roughriders have signed head coach Corey Mace and GM Jeremy O’Day to two-year contract extensions. Surprising only in that no one was expecting an announcement such as this at this time. There’s no doubt, however, that these are the men for the job.

It’s a signal of how things have changed in sports; used to be coaches and GMs got extensions only after they won a championship. Some teams still operate that way, but it feels like the majority don’t any longer (see: the Habs signing their braintrust to extensions on Tuesday as well). Continuity has long been the goal of all.

Perhaps the Riders feel a Grey Cup title is a foregone conclusion, or a formality, with this regime.

We’ll know in a month or so.

And #3 – It’s only been a week of the NHL season but it’s been so much fun to follow. On the good end, we’ve seen dazzling play by the young stars – like Ivan Demidov’s first career goal for Montreal last night – while on the bad end, the Rangers are the first team in NHL history to be shutout in their first three games at home, and Senators captain Brady Tkachuk is lost for four weeks with a hand injury.

Easy come, easy go. And so much fun to follow on a nightly basis …

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Continuity_ jeremy oday has by far wayyy too much continuity with this organization without much continued results on the field of play, oday he’s past his due date of expiration in riderville. Craig Reynolds_ his job is tied to jeremy hence the contract extension. This decision should have been reviewed at season’s end, It would have been more appropriate to reward contract extensions based on a Grey Cup Championship result after all both men were tied by contract services to the riders football club 2026.

Riders Craig Reynolds putting the cart before the horse. Contract extensions should driven by a CFL championship and then some.

That’s a nice early Christmas contract present already hung on a Roughriders stocking for the next three years.
