WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY: HOCKEY EDITION

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT, AND THE UGLY.

FIRST THE GOOD: REMEMBER LAST FALL WHEN CONNOR BEDARD SLIPPED TO AROUND A POINT PER GAME FROM HIS ALMOST TWO-POINT-PACE THE SEASON BEFORE AND THE WORLD WAS FALLING DOWN?

NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED BUT CONNOR TURNED IT AROUND FAST AND SET A WORLD JUNIOR RECORD BEFORE SETTING A WHL RECORD FOR BEING THE YOUNGEST DUBSTER EVER TO SCORE 51 GOALS.

ALL THIS ON A BAD PATS TEAM.

THIS IS ALL GOOD BUT WHAT’S BEST IS THAT I’VE BEEN GUARANTEED BY A HOCKEY OFFICIAL HERE IN CALGARY THAT BEDARD WILL BE BACK WITH THE PATS NEXT YEAR. DON’T BELIEVE THE RUMOURS.

NEXT, THE GREAT: I’VE SAID IT BEFORE BUT I’LL SAY IT AGAIN … THE HOCKEY WORLD IS DESCENDING UPON ESTEVAN, SASK NEXT MONTH FOR THE CENTENNIAL CUP; THE NATIONAL JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP.

A HOCKEY GUY SAID IT TO ME AGAIN ON TUESDAY, THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE LIKE A HUGE FAMILY REUNION. A REUNION OF HOCKEY PEOPLE! CAN YOU IMAGINE.

THE EVENT RUNS MAY 19-29 AT AFFINITY PLACE WITH THE 10 BEST JUNIOR A TEAMS IN CANADA PLAYING THREE GAMES PER DAY. THE FINAL WILL BE ON TSN. MAYBE EVEN MORE GAMES.

FOR ALL THE INFO, VISIT THE BRUINS WEBSITE OR CALL THEIR OFFICE. WE WILL SEE YOU THERE!

AND LASTLY, THE UGLY: I DON’T WANT TO SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON IT BECAUSE I’M TRYING TO BE POSITIVE BUT WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED TO THE WINNIPEG JETS?

WE WERE THERE LAST SUMMER AND THE SLURPEE CAPITAL WAS COMING UNHINGED WITH WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THEIR YEAR.

FAST FORWARD AND THEIR COACH QUIT IN DECEMBER AND NOW THEY’RE ON A 3-GAME LOSING STREAK, AND WERE OFFICIALLY ELIMINATED FROM THE PLAYOFF RACE LAST NIGHT.

SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME YOU CAN’T STOP A TRAIN FROM GOING OFF THE TRACKS. YOU’VE GOTTA LET IT GO OFF, AND THEN BEGIN THE CLEAN-UP.

THIS YEAR’S JETS ARE THE LONGEST TRAINWRECK OF ALL-TIME.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
